    Default Making Dogbane Cordage

This past week my son and I have been walking around our little forest looking for resources. Among our recent discoveries is Hemp Dogbane (aka Indian Hemp). Since we have it all over the place here I figured I'd make a study of it and roll some of my own.

The video covers the entire process from identification and harvesting, processing the fibers, to the finished product.

I watched your video and thought that it was great. I have never made cordage, but I may watch your video again and then try my hand at it. Thanks again for the post.

For those who have never tried cordage making it is a very valuable skill to learn. Paracord gets wrapped on every piece of equipment and bundled on knives and kits as if it is the great green hope for survival. People act as if when its gone you are a goner.

You are walking through miles of cordage every time you step outside if you know what you are looking at, and how to process it. The bowdrill, bow and arrow, sling, traps, snares, shelters, all depend on this baseline skill. Mac

I'd make a study of it and roll some of my own.

I hope you mean rolling the fibers and not the leaves.

I think cordage is probably the most important skill I need in a survival situation or perhaps one of the most. It helps me make shelter, enables me to snare food, and much more. Thanks for the link.

    Another great Mac Production video!

Mac this was brought up once before, putting all your videos on a CD. I think you could be compensated for your time and materials.

The fibers are in the leaves. pound it with a stick and you will see the fibers come out. I made 17 feet with 10 leaves. It makes some groovy rope dude.:high:
