some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

I am highly aware of that, didn't I specify the hereditary part? But I did forget to mention medical problems.

Go to my myspace and in my picture you will see my grandpa. He has obesity problems, but he can't shed that fat due to a tumor in his ankle.

Sarge - I took more of a survival training school approach. Here is a basic outline.

    Beginner Course

Length of course: 3 days, two nights
Environment: Wooded, easy to moderate terrain
    Weather: Not in my hands
Season: Late Spring, Summer, Early Fall
Equipment: Each student will be provided with basic camping equipment
Supplies: A wide variety of foods will be provided

The beginner course will place an emphasis on:
    1. Keeping a positive mental attitude
    2. First Aid
    3. Building simple shelters
    4. Fire Craft
    5. Locating and making it safe to drink
    6. Signaling
    7. Acquiring food
    8. Knot tying and lashing
    9. Introduction to topo maps and compass

The intermediate course of instruction would be one full week and build upon the skills listed in the beginner course.
    1. Keeping a positive mental attitude
    2. Advanced First Aid
    3. More complex shelter construction
    4. Advanced Fire Craft
    5. Advanced Water acquisition
    6. Signaling
    7. Tracking, trapping, hunting, advanced wild edibles
    8. Intermediate orienteering skills

The advanced coursed of instruction would vary in length and be climate specific.
    1. Dessert survival
    2. Mountain Survival
    3. Tropical Survival
    4. Open Ocean Survival
    5. Winter Survival

It's meant to be an outline, or table of contents if you will. Part of my background - degree in education, Master Training Specialist and Curriculum Developer in the Navy. For any training course that I have, or will develop I start with asking "what does the student need to learn" and then look at the steps that will take them from a starting point to the end goal.

This train has just jumped the track! The original topic was a challenge to those who teach survival to come up with some scenario's.
    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

It took like a day and a half of programming on a mainframe but it finally spit out your first victim..er uh...student. Notice, he already has both water and a way to carry it. Very astute!

As i mentioned in another thread i took a seven day field course at the Boulder Outdoor Survival School. The first couple of days you get a 32 ounce water bottle and a knife. after that you get a wool blankey and a poncho. The water bottle is a recent addition, after a man died of dehydration. you also get your first food, some potato's and carrots with the blankets. Hike 10 to20 miles each day while finding food and building a fire bow kit. For the majority of folks on this board this would not be difficult. At first i looked at the city people and thought they will end up quiting i was nicely surprised to see them really get into it and learn so much. The point is, people are capable are of much more then they think. Which is the point of the course.

Sarge has invited all the survival instructors to participate. There is already a thread for "beginner" and "intermediate". There will soon be one for "advanced". Please feel free to add a scenario. These are good training tools. Share your knowledge.
