It just gets me scratching my head. Air conditioned cars, air conditioned classrooms......don't see a need to call off school.

None of the schools in my area (southern Iowa) have air conditioning. It is fairly common for school to be cancelled in June, August and September due to high heat and humidity. I should add that all of the offices of schools in my area have air conditioning, but the classrooms and hallways don't. Guess the principal needs it more than the kids do.

high 40's to mid 70's all week in the PNW. Cool wind coming from somewhere.. and rain showers, snow up higher in elevation causing river run offs and then a boy scout drowned today in the Clackamas River OR. even though he had a life jacket and did everything right they are saying. Water temps are low 40's = hypothermia, he got too cold I assume.

Pretty much on the cool side here, had rain mixed with snow the other day and the peaks got a nice new coat. 37F outside at 12:42am. Probably reach 60 or so tomorrow.

Jericho, is your head screwed on okay? You think that breaking the rules and getting suspended from school is a break and something to laugh about?

How about having a family to support and getting suspended from your job?

How about breaking society's rules (we call those rules "laws") and getting suspended from society with a little prison time?

Use your current "break time" to get a grip on reality, Dude.

Crash, most houses in Florida don't have basements. Most schools in New England don't have air conditioning.

Two kids passed out in the high school here yesterday due to the heat. They may cancel school today.

Yesterday, it hit 100. Today, they're predicting "feels like temp" of 106 - 110.

They call that the "heat index". I didn't know what that was until I moved to Georgia 10 years ago. It was around 100 yesterday with the HI at 106.

I prefer the "wind chill" that we used to experience in NY winters.

Yep, the proper term is "heat index." Today, many papers and other sources now post it as "feels like."
