Hey, we made it 20 posts in before someone offered up a sawed off Glock or the XD as a "pocket gun"!!!

Like I generally say, it depends on the size of your pockets.

However, with those big boys we are entering territory that requires suspenders and a belt for proper pocket transport. Otherwise you are just another guy from the ghetto holding his pants up with one hand.

I have their entire line so you will have a good idea. Since the Ruger is a direct knock off of the Keltec line you can get the feel for the Ruger by checking out the Keltec.

My suggestion, for a guy your size, go with the PF9 for pocket carry. It is full 9mm in a package smaller than most .380 and I can hide it in MY pocket, so it will work for you. Only problem is that it hurts like crap to shoot!

I can cope with that because I am not into plinking with my belly guns. They are for last stand activity and I can deal with a bit of recoil slap in that situation. I am not shooting 200 rounds a week out of any of them.

I have a P11 also, but I am borderline on it due to size of the grip. As a reference point, the P11 is 6" long, 4" tall and less than an inch wide. but my spare mag for it is from a model 59 S&W. I can carry it in my pocket but it is not as compact as the PF9. But if you are one of them that expects a running gunfight with a pocket pistol it does hold 11 rounds in the primary and the S&W mags are good for 15 round each!

I do have to admit that when I switch from the P3at to the PF9 or P11 I start carrying in the belt using the Keltec belt clips or an IWB holster. But by that time the weather has changed and I am doing the Mr. Rogers thing with sweaters and vests, or carrying in the pocket of a parka so no one ever knows the gun is present.

Real "pocket carry" demands a change in how you use your pockets. I carry the P3at in the right front pocket with only a money clip in that pocket with it. Change, knife, phone and anything else goes somewhere else. I only want that pistol and my money in the right front and I can come out with whichever I choose depending on the need.

No pocket holsters either ! If I want the thickness of a pistol and a holster I will simply buy a thicker pistol that holds more rounds!

I *never, ever* leave home naked... When discreet carry is preferred, my S&W Bodyguard 380 w/laser is what I take.. Ive yet to shoot it (really need to!!). My take on it, its for "up close & personal" security, 7 yrds or less, dont even need the sights.. The laser is nifty for generalized aiming and may add a psyco level that "may" deter if Im lucky.

Its small enough to fit in a DeSantis pocket holster without much print.... If I pack it with the fly cover, it looks like a wallet at casual glance, no print.

I also have an IWB with belt hook holster for loose t-shirt carry.

380 is the smallest caliber Ill give consideration to for self defense. If I can smell your breath, its gonna work as desired!

Crash, look at the Ruger LCR with Crimson Trace grips. That's what my wife carries. If she wants to carry it in her purse there's no hammer to catch on anything. It's pretty light weight and the 38 Special has a pretty good track record. Just another option.

She's got a hammerless 38 already. This one will be for me. She knows that I go nowhere without carrying (and likes that) but wants me to be a little more discrete when we go out someplace a little fancier.

I have a SW638 with the shrouded hammer. Too big for pockets in the summer.
Been drooling on the counter for a used Sig 238 for over a month now. Can't talk the guy down enough though, even though it obviously isn't selling.
Shouldn't have shown so much interest in it. A buddy of mine has one. The trigger is so much better than the SW bodyguard - and way better than the Shield.

The reason the trigger on the Sig is better is due to it being a straight single action Colt style trigger rather than the convoluted "safety in the trigger" system everyone is using in their striker fired creations.

I fought the law and the law won LOL. Actually I didn't but I don't want to go there either. Now if that gun was legal, no BS paperwork or such I would have a few. May have to wet my whistle with a muzzleloader of the same style.

I actually worked with a guy that made those and did some beautiful wood etching on them. Quite the artist. ATF didn't do anything the first time. The second time he got 1 year and a day if I remember correctly. They did an under cover sting on him a year later and, unfortunately, he bit.

A small gun in your pocket or on your person is useful. Far more so than the larger on you left home cause it's a hassle to carry.

With this at 20-30' I have not one single issue with my choice of a 22 mag as a backup.
