I have absolutely no problem shooting through your rolled down windows and bouncing empty cases off your clear coat.
Won't do it to mine though.
I once had a friend that bought a new EBR and took it to the local gravel pit for testing. He decided to shoot it from sandbags off the hood of his wife's new Olds. Seems he forgot that the barrel was 3" below the line of sight and.....
Lets just say that the repairs cost more than the gun he was shooting.
Plus the ridicule, and we really did do a job on him.
And the added humiliation that his wife was the one that came down to the shop and ratted him out!!
She wanted to know if anyone could be so stupid as to shoot holes through the hood/fender of a car accidentally, or did he do it on purpose?
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?
There had better be something really big and really bad on the other side. Anything smaller and I'd just lock myself inside. With the windows up of course. Duh.

I don't think I would I! see too many possibilities for FAIL!

I tried to do that a couple of years a go with a 22LR to pot a Grouse. Actually through two windows - in one side, through the truck cab and going out the far window. Hit the trim at the bottom of the far window, missed the Grouse! Cost a few bucks to replace the trim strip.
The muzzle blast from a 7mm mag will blow out a truck windshield if you lean across the hood to take the shot. Not me! I just saw it happen.
In an emergency it can surely be done with a reasonable level of safely, assuming the proper vehicle and weapon combination. I wouldn't go doing it for it's own sake though as in my area, like many others, it is illegal to discharge a firearm from a vehicle or to do so from or over the right of way of a public road. In Florida, for example, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle within 1000 feet of another person is a felony. This is even harsher than my state's drive-by-law, which requires you to shoot at somebody outside of your vehicle deliberately before it becomes a felony.

Might we set aside the legal technicalities if one's windshield has just been smashed and one is being dragged from their vehicle for the purposes of a recreational beating?

Of course, but I prefer when possible to verify my options through established physical principles, case study and/or experimentation. In other words, if I thought I might have to do a thing in an emergency, I would want to have practiced it before. The legal considerations are worth mentioning in the event somebody thinks to try this in a non-self-defense situation.

I guess that's the difference between a Texan and a California/Texan

What we really need is a cross reference chart. One that shows what caliber can be safely fired through each make and model. Maybe we should contact the National Transportation Safety Administration. They could conduct a study and then make a cross reference chart.
Just out of curiosity, is a recreational beating different than, oh, say, a loan shark beating? Or a bookie beating? 'Cause a couple of those are enough for ..... what I mean to say is the latter are not pretty.

I imagine a tax is due in the case of professional beatings.is a recreational beating different than, oh, say, a loan shark beating?

I think they used tacks in the last one. A hammer, a board and tacks. I'm pretty sure. It's a bit hazy.

Yup, no problems at all. Good focus training... Like Indy car... one small mistake makes for a big problem, FOCUS.

Does a number on a vinyl roof.........Wasn't me either.
Mirrors take a beating some times......scope thing.
If you are not supposed to shoot out the passenger side window....why did they put a button on the drivers door?
....and yeah I would shoot thru your windows.....not mine.

Has anyone ever shot a firearm inside a vehicle ? I have the scar tissue on my ear drum from first hand experience. blew out my left ear drum.

I fired a .45acp inside a small earthen structure once and understand your pain.
I always get a kick out of watching them have gun fights inside elevators on the movies, them communicate in whispers a few moments latter!
Hunter, I did witness an incident between a vinyl roof and a .375H&H magnum once. The guy decided to stand on the rocker panel and let the shocks take up part of the recoil. The muzzle blast tore a triangle of vinyl off and laid it down over the passenger side window and scattered the padding into a snow like fluff.
