    Default Survival Trip

I did a three day survival trip in Mississippi during Mid December. Was asked to keep folk updated. Well I started out on family land of several hundred acres. I brought a 22cal Air Rifle, poncho, canteen with cup, para cord, Ka-Bar, Colman Fire Starter wool pull over and gear. Wore military pants with combat boots. During the walk I found scrap sheet metal, aluminum cans and a saw saw blade. I built my shelter from bamboo as it's light but strong. Covered with pine and sprus. Second layer with lots of bamboo branches followed by thick layer of leaves. And a bed made of pine needles and thin top layer of leaves. I used the sheet metal as a door to my shelter an the other piece as a heat reflector. Two cans to boil water. Made a spear from saw blade. I set a few snares and a deadfall. Got a squrrrel from the deadfall and coon on a snare by the creek. Squirrel was great and coon was tough. I cut some water vine for something sweet, stuff is like sugarcane. And boiler several pine, moss and while acorn broths. The temp was 65 high and 40 low. I was comfortable with the fire shield. I tried to create fire with Bow Drill but considering we had lots of rain fall two day prior I didn't find dry wood so luckily I did bring my Magnisium fire starter. I stayed warm. Stayed busy. And all in all I had a blast. Going to do another before winter is over

No pics of the ordeal? I always bring my cell phone along to snap pics.

You sure were lucky to get two animals in three days. How many traps total did you set?

I have pics but not allowing me to upload. Wasn't able to take many as I was busy and I didn't take my phone with me setting snares because I was afraid to loose it or drop it in water as I have done before. I set 6 snares and one deadfall. But I know the land well and know the animal trails and where the squirrel are. The coons fox always walk the small creek for minnow and crayfish, so I knew I'd snar one and I forgot to mention I brought peanut butter which I used to bait my deadfall

Try resizing the pics to 600 X 400 or similar. You should be able to upload them. Or use photobucket.

Man! That's hard core. I would have never thought that your area had hills as steep as that. Even the trees are growing sideways.

Thanks so much for posting. Really nice description, narrative and photos. How far from water did you "set up"? I need to do some practice on building and setting snares. This is very encouraging and it also makes me want to get out there and play some more. Again Thank you.

Mississippi goes from Hilly pines, swamp hardwood, flat delta...we have a giant bluff called Red Bluff 12 miles from where i live; that's unreal...many states just have various terrain...
like survival scenarios ,"wrecked truck on isolated hunting camp road in summer, broken leg, phone got torn up in creek during wreck, in Mississippi "
well you better ask north, south; east,,,,piney belt(east), delta(west)
The applachian foothills start in our farthest NW corner in Tishomingo

True. I was on a ridge about 40 feet from a small spring feed creek. It has excellent water and was the primary source of water for most of the community when my grandfather was a child. This county has a plenty hills and creeks but it is most are not extreme inclines. The land is a mix of hard wood and lots of pine. With a 20 acre hay field we cut and bail as well as hunt on
