    Default No More Turkey

    So I had a light schedule today and met a friend for lunch at 1:00. I ordered an open-faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes (I probably eat mashed potatoes twice a year) and within 10 minutes of finishing lunch I felt like I had swallowed a bowl full of sleeping pills.

    I got home and, 15 minutes later, took a 3-hour nap on the couch. That's the third time this has happened to me recently, and only after eating turkey each time.

    I know that turkey has tryptophan, a natural sedative, in it, but this was like going under anesthesia.

    There's supposedly no where near enough to even feel the effects.....


    I prepose it was a regular food coma.

    Only happens with turkey. Food comas usually require at least 4 full plates of food.

    Turkey is exactly why we'd all be in a coma after every Thanksgiving dinner.
    After I became vegetarian, I'd be the only one awake enough to serve coffee and pie.

    One of the travel places ran ads for trips at Thanksgiving....."Trip-to plan".....tryptophan, get it? haw haw haw.

    I like my after lunch nap....so what the big deal?
    Back in a previous life, (plant manager, in a mill) I would eat my lunch, then pull out a drawer, turn out the light and nap for 20 minutes.

    Was snoozing but not really asleep, and a guy comes in the outer office with some emergency that he wanted to dump on me........My guy out side the door tells him, "Shush, don't wake him up....he gets grumpy all afternoon if he doesn't get his nap".......
    Couldn't help but laugh, and had to get up......

    Between the Turkey effect and the carbs in the potatoes, it's a wonder you could walk to the bed. Any meal for me loaded in starchy carbs (as opposed to sugary carbs in sugar which make me alert) will put me to sleep. I have to be careful what I eat when driving long distances.

    I'm at the age when a good glass of water can put me to sleep. Gives the dog gas too. At least that's who gets the blame.
