As I said in 15 above I have no heartburn with that. General Chat is for exactly that kind of stuff. My only heartburn is the number of threads created on the same subject. Unfortunately, we don't stop with "higher levels detected" or whatever the headline is. We continue on with what liars they are, how government can't be trusted, etc. It finds it's way into every thread and just rehashes the same thing. That is my heartburn.

And I'm speaking as a forum member, not a mod. I have no intention of deleting anything unless it crosses the line of politics, religion or against someone.

Does that mean that I can't use the Forums to campaign for Sourdough for President in 2016?

I... I don't even know what to say to that except ask, "Was that a joke?" The number of significant domestic and worldwide events that are completely ignored by our Western media is absolutely astounding.

A very short list just from memory...

    - Rwanda genocide 1994
    - East Timor conflict 1999
    - Haliburton selling Nuke Tech to Iran 2005
    - Prez Bush eliminating data sources about the increasing homeless/poverty levels 2006
    - Congo Genocide 2004-2007
    - U.S. Operatives torturing Afghan/Iraq detainees to death 2003-?
    - World Bank funding Israel/Palestine Wall
    - Every study ever about the dangers of Fracking

And there's thousands more, as important and many even more important, that I have forgotten about or never even heard of, because I had to turn myself off of media about 7 years ago.

I was a journalist, until i realized that nearly all journalists, aren't. I had the epiphany at 3am one day and never went back to that job/career ever again. I couldn't reconcile my moral structure with what the job/industry allowed. I could never be the investigative catalyst I'd grown up dreaming of being, so I had to walk away.

I want to be a investigative journalist or a columnist. In fact, if a newspaper paid me what I earn now, I'd never walk into a courtroom again.

The kind of investigations and columns I'd like to write would be about FOOD. Kinda' like a Phantom Gourmet.

Just imagine..... getting PAID to go out to restaurants and eat FREE MEALS at your employer's expense and then have the opportunity to tell the world about it!

Ken - Exceptions can always be hammered out.

Oddmott - I'm not debating that either and no it wasn't a joke. All media outlets are in business for one thing....money. If they don't have a compelling reason for folks to read them then they don't sell advertising and they don't make money. Simple as that. The gloom and doom sites are no different. They don't care about world events, they care about selling advertising or enticing you to buy or invest in something. None of them are altruistic.

This radiation deal directly effects my wilderness survival habits. Will I still be able to count on limpets, sea cucumbers, fish, and crab as a source of food? If not, I may as well live somewhere else.

Nobody is saying that this situation is not important. Nobody is saying we shouldn't discuss it. Nobody is saying that for some it could be a matter of survival. I believe Rick's point is/was that we have 23 open threads on this. I suppose I could merge them all into one, but what's the point? The same things are being said in most, if not all of them.

We should all be concerned about the situation. The problem - in addition to the multiple threads with the same discussion is that it always degenerates into greedy this, evil that and political whatever.

Rather than that, why not do the research and take the thread in the direction of ...... this is what can be don to monitor radiation levels in our waters and food, or this is how you can tell if your food is safe. Years ago mercury was the in vogue scare. What did we do? We relied on USDA and other agencies to perform testing. While I understand that the food we harvest ourselves won't be tested......neither was the seafood that was potentially high in mercury. I'm sure there is plenty of research going on to that end, but we always revert back to the same old finger pointing, which in turn often leads down the path of political discussions.

I guess it's a matter of what a "safe" level of radiation is and when/if it's gonna hit the coast here at dangerous levels.

This is pretty informative. The animation half way down the page scares me a little.

I believe, frankly, that there is absolutely no way to keep humanity from going in that direction. The solution is going to include such things as community, preservation of communities with survival ethics, a hardheaded avoidance of postmodern and post-postmodern laissez-faire morality, and a commitment to individual health. The healthier you are, the more likely you are to survive environmental assaults.
True enough, my final home is still out there, but this is most certainly my home range and I love it. I love every rock I fall off and tree I trip over. Even when I am close to dying from exhaustion, a beautiful sunset doesn't lose it's power to refresh and inspire me and that, in itself, is enough to save me sometimes.

This is another good example of why so many threads on a subject is not a good thing. Many links have been provided throughout the threads that shows who's monitoring what, where and why. With so many threads no one can possibly keep track of it all.

Some items you might find of interest.

There's a lot of conflicting reports.

As long as the EPA says it's OK. (like GMO's) and the governement says it's harmless (like agent orange), I guess I shouldn't worry.

Okay, I read this entire thread and now I am afraid to jump in the ocean, eat sea food, and will have nightmares of glowing wilderness creatures chasing me through the woods in a not too far off world wide wasteland.
I have stopped watching all news and it is still slipping through the door. I guess there is just no escaping it other than going off grid or dying
