I would think this could be a serious threat but no more so than conventional firearms in the hands of those not legally capable of possessing firearms. As long as ammunition continues to be made of ferrous materials their detection should pose no problem. A 3D weapon without ammunition is sort of a club. Leave it to DHS to state the obvious to law enforcement.

True, but you'd be surprised how easily a single bullet can sneak through detectors. I have a friend who is a businessman and travels quite frequently. He was stopped at an airport in Vancouver after a scan of his briefcase, and they discovered a single round of 30-06 in a side pouch that he had forgotten was there from a gun-show about two months prior. The funny bit? He had taken that briefcase through the security at over a dozen different airports during that period, and no one had noticed. A full mag might get noticed, but individual bullets could easily get smuggled in by someone who's patient enough.

Just ask the Israelis. They have offered to help in the past, have been featured on 60 minutes and are amazingly smart about the whole thing. Which is why we haven't done a thing they suggested.

Unless they've seriously beefed up the capability of that printed plastic material to withstand sudden sharp impacts...I'll watch you. From waaay over here.
