Kyrat lives to fight another day! Glad you've made it, no worse for the wear.
It has to be a little disheartening to see all the devastation first hand.

Good to know you made it through intact, kyr. I have terrible trouble getting my head round such devastation.

Things like this are the reason I started prepping back in 1970. I was hit by a tornado in my first place after I left home. I was not hurt but I was trapped by blocked roads with no power for two weeks. I have never been without emergency supplies since that experience.

The amazing thing to me was that in our little village the emergency workers evacuated an entire subdivision of 300 homes within an hour of the storm striking. The people were required to leave, even if their houses were intact. No power, broken gas lines bla, bla, bla! Under normal circumstances most might have refused but everyone was still in shock and they simply got on the busses and rode away to emergency shelters. They did the exact same thing across the river in a small Ohio village.

We rural folk are not used to that level of control, but the subdivision involved is a bunch of city folk that think they have moved to the country. When a State Trooper knocks on yur door you just do what you are told.... ???

Ouch! I'm pretty affable but unless martial law had been declared I think I would have said no thanks on the invite if my home were still livable. Kinda hard to make you go.

Yeah - I agree. While I'm sure their motives were out of a concern for safety - mine (after the initial threat had passed) would be for getting to work and putting things back together (for myself and the neighborhood), along with preventing looting.

Woot! I'm still here!!! Henryville is where I live, and it too is nearly completely destroyed, just now got the internet back, and electric came back yesterday, but I am about a mile or so out of town,it looks like a war zone,we don't venture out there much because ALL the police protection is THERE,no patrols anywhere else and there has been major looting even from non damaged homes.

We had a fire in the wall behind the wood stove after hail cracked the clay liner in the wall that keeps the stove pipe from being in contact with combustibles, that happened the next morning after all hail broke loose, and we had made 1 of 3 attempts to locate his sister who lived in town and whose home was totally destroyed,we did get to see her today, and she and her family are doing ok considering they have nothing left. We did cook up all the meat out of the freezer and take an donate rather than lose it,sad when he owns a generator, but his ignorant brother borrowed it,and they since had a falling out, his brother won't return it.

Thanks for the prayers guys and gals,it means alot to us.

Here is a story of a young mom who saved her childrens lives by shielding them with her own,beLIEve me,NONE of them,or their neighbors, will ever forget that day.http://video.today.msnbc.msn.com/today/46638130

Trying to find the story of Angel Babcock, when you hear these stories,it really makes you realize that no matter how much you lost,or how bad you think you have it,it most definitely could be worse,I have spent many minutes with uncontrollable tears this past few days, something that is very unlike me I can assure you,Rest in peace Angel.

I have been pretty useless in all this mess,my BF refused to let me do anything other than man the vacuum cleaner, and when it got down to putting the mortar in between the rock behind the wood stove we debated on what would be the best, and least messy way to do it,I made a comment that it would be nice if we could use cake decorating bags,so off to Wal mart we went.we bought 2 of them, and while he was using one,I was filling the other one,at least I could do SOMETHING.

Maybe a reaction to all the shock. Take it easy.

I would suggest that you both take a bit of a time out and rest if possible. The stress will knock you out. The work will not go away, but if you stretch yourselves it will look insurmountable.
