Eating tules

I'd like to try preparing and eating tules, but once again i'm afraid of the mercury content (and other toxic gunk) of the water. Do they somehow filter the water they soak up, or will it contain the same chemicals as the surrounding water?

Take a sample to your local extension office or DEP office and see if they will test it for you.

I would imagine that arrowhead root and cat-tails might be susceptible to pollution as well.....Like I said interesting question.

I was taught by more than one herbalist that cat tails, while they are a wilderness grocery store will poison the He// out of you with heavy metals. The clean the enviornment. Good for the Urph, bad for the body. Hope that if you get lost your near a a CLEAN swamp...
