I have worked on them for years in various shops. Neighbor across the street had one for years.

It is fine for casual shooting but I am not sure it would hold up for the number of rounds CAS requires for proficency.

You can justify some of that with the fact that you can wear out three of them for the price of a Ruger Single Six.

    Do they have rimfire events?

I have been carrying and shooting one for many years, it is handy enough for varmints and dead acurate if you are used to the notch sights. Cylinder has good alignment and locks up tight, smooth trigger. I personally find it to be a well made and affordable handgun that is USA made. But I do have to qualify my response as I have no experience in CAS or its demands on a firearm.

Before I bought the Rough Rider, I'd look at the Ruger Single Six. You can pick up a used one at a reasonable price and it will come with a 22 Mag cylinder. Twice the versatility. My Single six has seen some hard use over the years and besides the "aged" wooden grips, It still looks and performs like new. You flat cannot wear out a Single Six. God knows I've tried with no affect. In all fairness the Rough Rider is alot of gun for the $$ but it ain't no Single Six, that's for sure. The Single Six will upstage the Rough Rider in durability and accuracy over the long haul. If you hold the two side by side, the difference in quality of build shouts at you. The Rough Rider will do fine as a ''fun'' gun but for a "working" gun, get the Ruger and don't look back. But hey, It's your croakers...get what fits the bill. Good luck.

9mm: Because even 1911 guys don't want to get shot with one of my "little" bullets.

9mm: Because low round count single stack pistols suck in a gun fight!

Doesn't the Heritage come with both cylinders?

Some clubs hold rimfire competition as a side event and devide it by age group. 22 caliber was very popular in the 1800s. They were carried as backup guns all the way back to the CW.

They also have side events of the "wild bunch" pursuation involving 1911 pistols, '97 winchester shotguns and 06 rifles.

The heritage comes with both cylkinders or as .22lr only.

I'm a fan of the Ruger Single Six as well, although a friend did buy a Heritage w/ both cylinders....and your right, side by side you can really see the difference.

But that said, it does shoot well, and with the amount of shooting he does, probably just fine.
I think he bought it last year for under $200 bucks.

By "working gun" I mean a gun that will see hard use with minimal care and can be depended on EVERY time. A gun that will take a beating and keep on trucking. One that is more accurate than it needs to be. A gun that is as tough as a gator belly. That's a "working gun". That's a Single Six.

Just remember "You get what you pay for".......All the cleaning in the world won't change that.

While hunting on a Wyoming ranch, the owner and his boys (ranch hands) all carried Ruger Single Six's w/the .22mag cylinder.
They had the metal showing as the blueing had been worn off.....That's a "working gun".

The Single Six weights a little more than the Rough Rider. The 5.5" barrel weighs the same as the longer 6.5" barrel version of the Rough Rider. I like the stock sights on the Rough Rider better than those that come on the Single Six.

Having skinned out more than my share of gators, I would say both are as tough as a gators belly. While the Single Six is as tough as a gator's scute to boot!

What GC really means is - a 1911 is a real working gun. Hee-hee. How you been, Big Guy?

The Ruger Single Six is the best choice for a .22 revolver.

Glad you like your new smoker. Now stop pecking that key board and go shoot the hell out of it!

P.S. Take my advise and learn and I mean LEARN where those fixed sights hit. After a while, ''Kentucky windage'' will be second nature to you. You won't even realize you're doing it. Good luck, brother.
