    Default Another project

Since little Travis, my 11 month old, has way too many toys already the wife wanted a toy box. Well, I have lots of new tools to play with so I decided to make one.

My shop and tool inventory has grown a lot this winter. I still don't have everything I want but I currently ran out of room. That will soon change this summer when I get back to my 700 sq ft shop.

The centerpiece or money maker of the shop...

It's a bit cramped but it works.

Well Doug, as you say, may be a bit cramped, but you have made the best of the room you do have. That is a very nice shop. I am a sawdust maker myself

I hope there is nothing wrong with a messy shop...LOL! I like the toy box, I built a firewood box that looks very similar so I think you did a great job.

Doug, very nice job on the toybox. Women are funny about that tool thingie. Here's a tactic that works.....sometimes. You need to spend $400 on that new Porter Cable combo drill, sander, planer, cover, router.

Doug: "Honey, I'm headed to Rocklers to pick up that Porter Cable IX4351 we talked about."
Wife: "When did we talk about that?!"
Doug: "The other night when things were all crazy (this is important, don't be precise. Avoid all attempts at being precise)
Wife: "I don't remember anything about a Porter whatever. How much is it?"
Doug: "It's on sale for $750. It's almost half price."
    Wife: "No."
    Doug: "But it's half price."
    Wife: "No."
Doug: "We talked about it. I know it's a lot of money but I need it to go with the 3426 Oscillator."
    Wife: "No."
Doug: " Dang it! (Pentive Pause) Look, here's what I'll do. It's not what I want but I can make it work. They have an IX400. It's really low end but I guess I could do that."
    Wife: "How much is that?"
Doug: "Only $400 but it's not an IX4351." (Say this with total disgust in your voice)
Wife: "You're not spending $750 and that's final. If you can make the $400 one work then okay."

    Win/Win

Ah see I still have much to learn. These are great tips. She is usually pretty good about letting me get what I need. I'm working on getting a dust collection unit and air filtration. It should be easy since she hates all the dust and wood chips I drag into the house.

Also made another bowl today. Just needs a few days in the kiln to dry before finishing.
