You know, this whole story is a lose/lose. The piece that isn't discussed and won't be dealt with is the problem of mental health in this country. For all our advances we're still in the "Pull yourself up by your boot straps" mentality. If folks were walking the streets with broken arms we'd do something about it. But paranoid delusionals literally don't get the time of day.

the time of day isn't real Rick. it's an abstract concept created by the mall of america to consume the attention of the consumer between store closing and store re-opening. they implant it in your mind with radio waves on the 88-108MHz band. that's why they don't sell foil at the mall.
hrm: why won't even mcdonnalds hire me?

At the risk of getting political...........
When I first began practicing, the program to "mainstream" individuals with mental illness was in full swing. This was clearly part of a liberal agenda to halt the "incarceration" and "stigmatization" of people with mental illness. Courts were releasing potentially violent patients at an amazing rate. Long-term inpatient mental health hospitals were closed down in favor of outpatient services.
The problem is, outpatient services simply don't work in many cases, and there's no system in place to require mental health patients to continue their treatment and stay on their medication. Only in the most severe cases, when individuals show clear signs that they pose an immediate risk to themselves or others, will a court order hospitalization, and, in most cases, the patient is released once their condition "stabilizes." And then the cycle begins over again.

One more thing...........
The media is now awash with the debate over hate speech and threatening language in political debate. Bills are now being proposed to curtail "threatening" and "provocative" speech.
So, how do we distinguish a "figure of spech" from "vitriol?" I, for one, sincerely believe that our vice president DOES NOT condone political violence. And yet,

I have a CCW and have a gun on my hip and I get turned down when I go to buy a gun. I have certain numbers and fax forms and I get my gun.
I come up as listed as an out of state fugitive from justice by the US Marshals office. I didn't pay the full fine on an arrest for spot lighting prohibited and a bench warrant was issued and Palm Beach county won't remove it from my record.LOL
Last night I picked up an SW 29-2 for a couple hundred bucks. No background check required.
Nuts will get a hold of guns. This is just a fact of life. No one is going to change that.
it's two different things to advocate the restriction of the right to free speech to to wish people would stop going out of their way to give some chumps a soapbox.
unless you think that wishful thinking threatens the constitution, or that we're all somewhere guaranteed television and radio exposure?

Easy fellas. Watch the politics.
this is true, but it does not bear on their applicability to other individuals and circumstances. words are flexible like that.

I listen to some of those idiots, and most of what bed wetters get their panties in a wad about, are things said in jest. (Not to mention all the things said as a figure of speech.)
Heck....if media matters read this forum, they would be telling the world that lawyers want to kill dumb southerners, but we know that's not the case.![]()
...OK, that might be a bad example.LOL
