    Default Holy Wah Tropic Heat!

Whew! it has been hot like Panama here in Indiana. yesterday it got to about 110 here with over 90% humidity. Today it pushed 100 all day with slightly lower humidity. The rest of the week looks like it will be close to the same. This has made me think of Jungle Survival Training. Which to me was "find a water source, make a hooch, endure it and wait for rescue ."
I see no rescue from this. October is on the far horizon. I can't wait for the first frost of the year. I truly do prefer Autumn to any other season. Partly because it's hunting season. Partly because the crisp air, brisk mornings and the changing leaves and their colors and how the waning of the year promises the birth of the New Year.

I agree. The beauty of fall is where words fail me. It's like a change comes over my brain. Hard to believe it is hotter farther to the north than down here in the swampy deep south. Strange, it's been hotter this year than in several recent years, yet this is the least active Hurricane season we've had in quite a while.
Goes to show you how mother nature can be unpredictable, to an extent.

Look on the bright side, 45 days will be october. That's bow season down here, but the mosquitos and snakes are still really thick. We're usually cooling down some by then, but it's usually still hot here on halloween. Mother nature is at least THAT predictable . while it'll start cooling off in your area in october, it'll be after thanksgiving before we feel much relief.

    It could always be worse!

This discussion brings to mind those folks who are flooded (watching the weather channel) in this heat. Unprepared? probably. Most of their supplies and comforts are likely gone. Why did they stay?... this sort of ties back to SD's post about when the S really HTF.
I think at some point, something inside us says it's time to move. When we ignore that inner voice (some call it instinct, some call it intuition) is when we really run into trouble.

That's why God invented air conditioning. It has been brutal.

Hot and humid here as well, I have been kinda coming in and out of the A/C, sorting gear.
Funny usually I save that for rainy days,........ but I guess hot days qualify, right?

    It's so hot in Indiana....

Today I saw a chicken lay a fried egg.
    Cows are giving evaporated milk.
    Trees are whistling for dogs.
You eat hot peppers to cool your mouth off.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
The squirrels are handling their nuts with potholders.

Bow season started on public land July 31. We are going out this weekend to look to place our stands. But I think we have a week more to wait.

There are some roofers working about a block from me. I hear the nailers running in the early morning then it's quiet all day long. That is NOT a job I would want right now. Too hot to work in the day time (mar the roof). Here are some others I wouldn't want at the moment (although I've done them).

Clearing right of way....hot, dusty job, baby.
Holding a traffic sign on the road....Foot fire....asphalt bubble pops.
Working on a rail bed ...... blast oven.....no shade.

It's good to be old and feeble and have to stay in the air conditioning. I prefer it.

We work from the crack of dawn, till about 12 or 1:00, then go home till late in the evening. It's pretty nice out from 5 till 9. You sleep less at a time, but it gets the job done.

I can't believe they are using nail guns... those shingles will fall off soon. I hand drive every nail I put in a roof.

fast money and a sh*tty job. Such is the way of the world. Is there no pride left in the work we do?
Oh well, the roofers around here that use guns keep me in business with patchwork when the shingles fall off in a years time. Let 'em use them. I need the work.

We are currently in the longest stretch of 90+ days since 1988. It's that global warming thing I tell ya. Thankfully, there is a front moving through tonight that will bring cooler temps and much less humidity. The humidity has been the killer. I've never seen rain just hang in the air before.

lol. sometimes the rain falls up here it gets so dang hot. We worked in the rain today just so it wouldn't be like a blast furnace. There are 2 systems sitting over the top of us for a few days and all I can say is THANK GOODNESS!

It's getting to the point of miserable here. Yesterday the temps were mid 90's, 82 according to the weatherman, LOL, and it was about 75 to 80% humidity with really poor air quality.

I went out to gather some hazelnuts and in 2 hours was burnt to a crisp and gasping for air. Today it's worse, so I'm sitting at home breathing.
