Bike Path

Not too far from my house, is a bike path, that I've been going to, lately. It's kinda peaceful, winding along just inside the tree line, next to the Dismal Swamp Canal.

Thanks to you guys, I end up playing the "spot the resources" game while I ride.

1. The path.

1. It's not a good picture. It's reeds. Around here, you're never too far from plenty of reeds. LOL

I'm not sure what kind of thistle this is, but I was surprised at how tall it was. I had to take a couple pictures with my bike next to it, for scale. LOL

LOL....I had to look this one up. I had never seen one with markings that run from head to tail, like that.

No there not. I got a digital camera, for my birthday, and I'm 2 dumb to set the date and time.

Nope....a guy that rode with us, but he busted his butt, and had to have his wrist pinned back together......so he was just hanging out, taking pictures. LOL

Good eye 2D. I love playing that game! Looked like some hickory mixed in with the reeds, and I believe that thistle is common yellow, some of those get pretty tall. The more you learn the more you'll see, and the more you see the more you'll say "what's that?"
We went fishing this weekend to the new management area and I encountered some new plants that I'm still trying to key out. Now that you've got the bug, everywhere you look you'll see resources.

Here's a few more pictures.

1. Mother natures baiting station........oak trees. LOL

2. Don't forget about fishing. I'm told, that the canal has catfish, yellow perch, etc.

3. I saw this guy today. There was nothing close to give scale, but his shell was a tad bigger than a dinner plate.
