COngratulations Doug. That kid is a pound heavier and 3 inches longer than my most recent little guy. Hope you aren't too tired, cuz you aren't going to sleep for the next couple months. You had more sleep in Basic Training.

Oh, and two things I wish I knew on our first, and figured out later.

    1. Wrap him up real tight in that blanket for the first few weeks. Newborns like the tight feeling (especially since they were in a tight place for so long). Eventually they don't like it as much, but it will help calm them in the beginning.

    2. Don't listen to anyone about how to feed your baby. It is your baby, not theirs. If your wife is breastfeeding, don't be afraid to slip in a bottle now and again to fill the kid up. Some women are practically jersey cows, and others aren't. My wife isn't, although her sister is. So, if your boy is still fussy right after a feeding, then she is probably dry and he is still hungry. Give him a bottle. I really wish we knew this for our first one. It would have saved us a lot of stress.

    Wow, congrats, that's great.
Might as well have a couple of more right away, as your life is gonna be changed anyway.
    Very cool.

We had a newborn for 2-1/2 months (legal guardians) as the kids were going through the adoption process, last fall.
Didn't think that we would ever hear a newborn crying in our house, haven't had one for 36 years.

Kinda tough doing this all over again. My first son will be 11 this July and I don't remember much. My wife keeps asking me what to do but I don't know any more than she does. Eh we'll figure it out.

Wow what a crappy day to bring Travis home. Snow, snow and more snow. The dog is freaked out about the new addition. Whinning, crying and barking. Hope he gets used to it soon,he's driving us nuts.

I don't know if this will work for your dog, but when I brought Winnie jnr home I put his basket and blankets that he'd been wrapped in on the floor and let our dog have some time sniffing and nosing about. Once she got used to the smell I then let her sniff the baby while he was in my arms. I think it's because babies smell so different to grown-ups and if you're a bit anxious too it all transfers and causes stress. After the sniffing session she was fine and she made a very good "nanny", telling me off if I didn't go to him when he fussed! She was also his protector and got quite nasty with strangers if they came near "her" baby. Obviously I never, ever left her and the baby unsupervised. HTH.

Congrats, Doug and family. One question: a beautiful Mom, absolutely cute baby, but who's that ugly old man in the center photo?
