well I am now on the laptop(which I type even worse on)and have gotten rid of all those other AV programs and now I am running on Kaspersky!! I feel a seense of relief. So I know how you feel Ken.

I Use McAfee and Malewarebytes,,, , The latter is the best for detection and removal , but the free version does not have a real time scanner,, but the two together work ok,, I installed Malewarebytes and it found 44 infections that McAfee didn't detect,, You can visit this site for Reviews and info on every anti virus program there is,, http://issviews.com/forum/index.php?...10f6708b558de0

I use and recommend Avast free edition, CCleaner and Malwarebytes free edition.
AVG can eventually slow a computer to a crawl. I have seen many comps return to previous speeds just by switching from AVG to Avast.
(It also helps to run a de-fragmenter via Scheduled Tasks. )
I also disable System Restore because those nasties are frequently copied to the System Restore points.
Do a real back up. I have personally used Linux as my OS of choice for about 12 years now and I use a free utility called Partimage to make a restoreable image( to a cd/dvd or a seperate hard drive partition.) of a freshly installed system.
Partimage also works with windows filesystems.
