Actually..... it sucked! I don't see how they survived as long as they did.

Because it is a Teaching movie, and if they died on day two or three, well......98% of the intended lessons would have been un-taught..........

Not having seen the movie - that may have been a good thing.

If it truly was a teaching movie then dad would have kick his sons *** and tossed that damm video camera. Besides only about a third of their mistakes were even addressed. Come to think of it they tended to go into great detail about the few things they did do right.

linkmissing, I have to ask, what about the movie did you think was good? and be specific.
I am serious, I really want to know and I think it should be looked at and discussed.

I liked it, it was entertaining. I like the interjections from the "experts".
I liked that it was on mainstream T.V. so others will start giving it some
real thought and PREPARE for themselves so they won't have to mooch
off us. I think that should be done more often.
The family was as ignorant and prepared as 98% of the U.S. would be.
I've been prepping for yrs. but hubby is not on board with it so
I kinda feel like I'm swimming upstream sometimes.
so I made him watch the movie with me. he.he.he
I was hoping the experts interjections would wake him up a little.

Movie was lightweight but I want my hubby on board and hoping some
of the statements will ring a bell.

Sarky, It took me years of talk to get my sister, to buy some extra food. And three more years to get her (She's 49) to touch a firearm, and then procure two. I see the value of the movie as being a wake-up call for the clueless. Not as a definitive "how to" complete training film, but a bucket of ice cold water in the face.

The biggest problem I saw with the movie was, When they did things right there was no great reward and when they did things wrong there was no great consequence.
    examples
1: wife shoots bag guy (this is a good thing) he doesn't pick up bad guys gun and just lets the wife drop the gun she had. With 2 guns they would certainly have had a better chance of defending themselves and most likely could have gotten much needed supplies. Of course in that scene I would have killed the son myself for alerting the bad guys to my presense,
2: They are walking in the desert on a road in the DAYTIME (not one expert addressed the fact that to survive in a desert enviroment you move from dusk to dawn and rest up in the shade during the day.

IMO, the movie said pack for a contingency and plan on joining a gang to survive.

oh great, another gang to contend with "the twinkie addicts from heck" ...fearsome, be afraid people, look up any high sugar treats you may have around.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"
