    Default Keeping up with snow

When we get any snow the wife and I do oure best to keep the trucks and driveway clean.I think we are the only ones on our street that can be found shoveling during a snow storm. My thinking is that if anything would happen we could get out with out too much trouble.

On Sunday around 1am I had to bring Kody to the ER with a 103 deg fever. Our work keeping up with the snow fall made getting into the Jeep as easy as if it hadn't snowed at all.The drive to the hospital was scary due to the visibility being close to none.Turns out Kody has Strep. We spent 3 good houres at the hospital on his birthday. When we left there was a line of nurses handing out candy canes and wishing him a happy birthday. He felt like a king walking out.

I do not plan on ever changing when it comes to keeping up with the snow.Always have done it probably always will. But the funny thing is that my neighbor who always waits until the storms over said that from now on he will be out every couple of houres too.He may be turning a lear on the "it never happens to us" kind of thinking.

That's nasty stuff, tell him happy birthday. My son lives where he gets lots more snow than me and he ploughs his road at 5" or so. He says it's easier and faster to get it a few times than wait until it gets deep. Makes sense.

Makes sense to me, I hope Kody feels better soon, and Auntie Winnie says happy birthday!

Good for you. You've set an example for family and neighbors. Perhaps some of those neighbors will learn something.

Sorry to hear he is sick and I wish him a speedy recovery. Hopeful he'll be just fine for Christmas.

I'm the same way, Coot. We generally don't get a lot of snow but when it's forecast I try to keep up with it. I've got a TroyBilt snow blower and it's just a lot easier on me to knock it out a bit at a time.

I can give you an example of why you should keep up with it...my driveway! Because of my job, I am always working when we get storms so I cant get to my clean up until after and sometimes, several days after. We didnt get anything from this last storm but right now, my driveway is under about 3 inches of slippery, solid ice! I put some sand on it yesterday but it will stay an icy mess until spring! Good luck to Kody! I hope he feels better soon.

Same here, we got about 22 inches of snow between Saturday and Sunday. I was out with the snow blower about every 3-5 inches doing 4 houses, driveways and walks. Made it much easier on Sunday morning when I awoke to the over night 12 inches . Staying ahead of it makes the most sense (plus is more "fun")

Still no electricity for lots of folks close to me and really ain't cold enough for frozen meat & stuff to keep outdoors. I went out yesterday, stopped by Wally's and very few batteries were available, little water, no battery radios. Folks I talked with said AEP won't have power restored until the 28 and with another storm for this weekend maybe not then so I don't bother to clean anything but the walk to the garage, about 20' and jump the Jeep or Rincon out of the garage. Probably could have sold my extra smaller generator for a bundle. I will skip the snow clearing this time, glad everyone is industrious. Folks with generators don't fry a lineman. Many generators were sold to people who I know are backfeeding, I spent an hour just telling people how to use the generators and found all the nuts aren't in the woods.

Thank you! Most people dont know how dangerous a generator can be for us out in a storm. After our big ice storm of 98, everyone up here has a generator. I ground everything now and still will use my rubber gloves every time. Honestly though, I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen backfeed from generators.

Haven't had much snow so far this year, I expect we'll be getting plenty in January to make up for it though.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Unfortunately, you only need it to happen once.

Absolutely! Like I said..I ground everything during a storm. Generators and tree limbs are the scariest things during a storm IMO
