is the reputation thing a big deal to you?

    i just learned about it.

if more people than not say yes, its important to me, ill go back and give positive reputation.

some of you have helped me alot already.

i, myself, dont care about reputation.

im pretty much just here to learn and share what ive learned.

were not all the same though.

so, let me know what you think please.

For the most part, I don't care for the reputation. After being here a while, you will learn by the users if they are bonafied.

Honestly.. Who cares what other people think of u?.. I ve never even glanced at the reputation... I figured out when I was 11 or 12 that I shouldn't care what other peoples opinion of me is... Why try to impress or make anyone else happy?.. Screw that.. I judge people on merits as I and I alone see them.. And honestly don't care how people judge me.. I'm not gonna waste my life worrying what others think of me or trying to impress them... I live a happy life treating people how I'd like to be treated and not letting other peoples opinion influence how I act... I try my hardest to transfer that to every aspect of my life.. I don't think it's a big deal, it's nice to give someone a boost if they said something I thought was particularly good, but if I'm going to start worrying about what everyone thinks of me I'm going to have to go back and delete about 75% of my posts.

Each day I am haunted by what my reputation is on this forum. If I log on and find that someone gave me a bad mark, I break down and cry for hours. I mean, come on, this is an online forum with people you will probably never meet (unless poco hunts you down for a meet and greet ). Shouldn't your life be qualified by people online who you haven't met? Well I think so.

    Anyways, what canid said.

Not really a big deal here - I guess on some forums it is (at least that's what I read. I still question the existence of other forums) As Canid said - kind of a way to say thanks. On the other hand, it has been used to say some less flattering things. Nice to give it --- nice to get it ----- in the grand scheme of things........?????

I have to agree. rep doesn't mean much to me, but it is a nice way to tell someone thanks for sharing, or let them know that you think they put up some really good info. I give rep boosts when I think someone is helpful. Like RangerX said, after a short while you can tell who is bona-fide so I dont use it as any sort of reference for credibility.
And it makes me feel good to tell someone else they are doing good

It's kind of funny that when this whole rep thing was introduced (added) to the forum there was one member who had just made a whole series of derogatory and inflammatory posts. He must of received some bad rep for them because he started whining about the rep system and left. By the way - you can turn off your rep on your user control panel if you desire.

Actually, my reputation is very important.

I can lose family, money, everything, and the only thing that will be left is my reputation.

Even on these here internet forums. I mean, FVR, if you try hard enough you can figure out who I am and what my real name is.

I don't really worry about what others may think as HEY! This is who I am and to deviate from that means I would just be lying to myself.

So, I say what I say and stand behind it. My personal resp. to myself is to say on these boards what I would say to your face. Well, except chances are I'm a little nicer on these boards. If I think your full of crap, in person I will tell you.

FVR - I agree with you. The thread was talking about that little forum feature where you can click on that little icon below somebody's avatar and add or subtract points from their "forum reputation".

I got some rep for my bigfoot story. I thought it was kinda neat. I'm really not for or against it though.

A forum I used to visit that is now defunct started the rep thing after years of not having it and everyone freaked. I think it led in part to the final demise of the site.

My reputation always has been important with people I meet and do business with and be known that my word is as good as any contract. I have closed deals and jobs on a handshake. If I do business in an area I am known in it's standard practice as ordering gravel just to have it coming, no bills and pay when I next drive by the business. Same with anything. Took years to get it and I ain't about to lose it. It's also good to know I can be counted on to help other folks and receive help in return. Money is never offered or asked for and I don't give or take any crap from anyone. That's the way I live.

My rep. on here, of course it matters. Don't really know how to check it. I got a rep? Hope it's a good one.

I've been known to be an arsehole, grumpy, and yes I can be a drama queen. Did I really say that?
