    Default My Army Buddy

Hello to the forum... it's been awhile. Been busy this past summer. I have a favor to ask of each of you. Would you please pray for Spec. Diane L. Currier, U.S. Army? She shipped out to Kuwait this past Tuesday morning, will be there training for 2 weeks, and from there will be stationed in Iraq. Her unit will be dismantling the F.O.B.s that are no longer in use in Iraq, and they will be traveling some not too safe roads to be getting from base to base. I am her home contact. I am storing her vehicle, gear, and personal belongings. I also am handling all of her financial affairs (bills and stuff) for her while she is off serving the country. As the need arises I will also be sending her care packages. So far so good, she landed in Kuwait safe and sound, though quite tired and rather warm as the temperature was reading 100ish. If your could please do so, keep this woman in your prayers. Many thanks. LB

Many thanks Sarge. Diane had to assign me a specified power of attorney so I can legally handle her affairs. I had no idea what our soldiers go through when shipping out! They have to trust in someone to keep things in line for them...and many do not have family members they can turn to.

Many thanks to both you and Rick, Cowboy. My summer was filled with lifes usual unexpected pleasures...sibling in jail, 4' bees nest under the kitchen, lots of dental work, and getting my best friend ready to go off and server her country... never got to do much of anything fun except for dodging deer that run out from the cornfields, and not catch any fish. (did drink a bit of beer while not catching any fish though ) I saw the knife u were working on when you first signed on the forum... Looks fantastic!!

The company I am at has been sending Care Packages to the troops for several years now. If you want us to include her (wich we would be happy to do) send me her mailing address via PM and we can add her to our list. One of our favorites is Christmas time, when we send decorations, and little silly novelty presents.

LB: First, thank you and her. During my 22 year career, I went on numerous lengthy deployments. I was single until just a couple years before I retired and never had someone to do that for me. I had to rely on the Army; never was comfortable. What you're doing is a wonderful thing. Dave

Many thanks to all of you for your prayers and kind thoughts. Pal, when Diane sends me the correct forwarding address I will PM the info to you. I am sure that both she and her company will be very happy to receive word from home. She is a member of A210 BSB 2nd Brigade, out of Fort Drum, NY. My plans for care packages will likely be including personalized for my friend as well as packages for the rest of her unit, (I did warn her I was likely to adopt the whole unit... )

MilVet, I will be happy to answer your question once I figure out what an MOS is and which outfit she is attached to. While I did grow up next to Fort Drum, I still don't understand much of the terminology...

LB MOS stands for Military Occupational Specialty( the military's lingo meaning Job) If you are still near Ft Drum, then the 10th Mountain is one such unit your friend could be attached or assigned to.Attached means something like this: Say when I was in the 82nd Airborne Division, that was the Unit I was assigned to. Now say that for some reason 5th Special Forces Group needed some more people that did not especially have to be Special Forces qualified. I could have been "detached" from my unit and "attached" to that 5th SF grp. I would then do my job with them, and report to them not my Unit the 82nd.
