How do you carry water in your BOB

What kind of container do you use to carry water in your BOB and why?
I used to use 2 flexible GI 2 qt canteens. After getting a CamelBak backpack, I saw the light! I now have a 6 liter CamelBak Water Beast hydration bladder in my Kifaru Navigator. and a 3 liter Water Beast in my E&E pack. I also carry a Nalgene 1 liter bottle (used only for mixing electrolyte or energy drinks, don't want to taint the hydration bladders)
One other thing, I also invested in a CamelBak Squad pack which is a 26 liter dedicated hydration backpack.

It depends on how I go. If I can use the truck, I have two 5 gallon cans. If not, then I have four (2 x 2 people) quart canteens and a 3 liter collapsible bag.

I have bottled water in mine because it tends to taste better after sitting in the pack for six months, but I also have two empty nalgene 1 quart bottles and a 10 quart MSR Dromedary bag. I have both iodine tablets and my MSR Waterworks pump in my BOB when I'm not using it camping.

In the BOB, have two GI canteens with the NBC "straw". They are are relatively small and sturdy way to have "ready" water and fit the side pouches well.. Then of course have the camel back for use in a more long term situation. My Uncle Sam has been very good to me

That rig is actually intended to allow you to hydrate while wearing your gas mask, the tube hooks to a tube in the gas mask. It works just fine as a water system in the BOB.. Just wanted to clarify .

Well, if you divide these and other items into 25 years, I figure that the canteens only really cost me about $1,753.32. Mmm is that better than I could have done on eBay?

Pal, I didn't know the straw was NBC qualified. I thought it was just so you don't have to get the canteen out every time. Pal, you know this of course, but for others, you don't need that big straw to use the canteen with the gas mask. You have to get the right lid for the canteen, but there is a lid and you can just stick it in the tiny straw on the mask.

Man, those glasses are exactly what I wore in Iraq for a year. They are hideous to look at, but are VERY comfortable. I have recently spray painted them tan, but have yet to put new lenses in them. The old ones don't work no more.

Anyways, I usually carry water in gatoraide bottles. Nalgene bottles are too heavy, and I HATE camelbacks. I have three of them, and they irritate me very much.

Hydration systems (like the camelback) are the only way to go when you are hiking far and carrying a lot of weight, especially when water sources are scarce. The ability to take regular swallows of water while you walk is invaluable at keeping you properly hydrated and makes for a much more comfortable hike.

The only "problem" I have found with them is that, because you drink water more often (which is exactly what you should be doing) you run out of water more quickly; which means you either need to carry more than you normally would or you need to have a well-though-out replenishment plan.

You are correct, not NBC qualified, just used when we used the masks for irritant agents. I always took the chance and kept plugged in, and of course used it when not in mask for the same reason.And I agree, camelbacks are so awkward when you have to "scoot and get". always tried to keep two canteens, which was usually enough while operating.But always had the camelback as a drop bag. And with the glasses, they did keep the females away so you could concentrate on work

That is why I upgraded my BOB to the 6 liter Water Beast bladder, It's tougher than the standard and it will fit where a 3 liter will.

hey sarky how is that kifaru? those bags look awesome! been thinking about getting but i cant really find any informative reviews on them

I keep 2-2qt canteens in the car all the time. If traveling very far I throw a 5 gallon jug in.
