Hell, 357 mag, 357 Sig, and most 40's pull out front of the 45acp. Even a few 9mm loads edge out the "ALL MIGHTY .45" in energy and penetration. Really though they all suck at stopping jazzed up felons. Pick any of the common combat calibers and they all act about the same in reality. Remember...Multiple shots on target is the best tactic. I highly recommend Sig, H&K, and Glock. Smith and Wesson mp's and Springfield XD's are great too. If you want to save a few bucks and get great quality Ruger is tops. Leave Taurus in Brazil. Third world countries need all the crappy guns they can get. Aw man, just forget all the other stuff I said and just get a Sig. They are simply superb. There is a reason top government agencies use them. They have huge budgets. Sigs are expensive and you get what you pay for. Glock reliability in Cadillac trim. Nice.

KenB, the .357Sig isn't exotic, heck all you need is a .367Sig reloading die set and your press, to turn .40sw cases into .357Sig brass!

glockcop, for the 2 legged vermin, yes I would prefer my ParaOrd P-12 in .45acp. But the .45 is no hand cannon dispite it's diameter. In the field, I much prefer a wheel gun to an autoloader. While in the city I prefer the autoloader. The Sig is nice and if I were going to get one it would be the new Sig 250, I like the whole modular design thing going on.

Sarky I definately agree with the sig 250 idea, but the Sig classic line has to make no applogies either. We are on the same page as far as the legendary stopping power of the 45 not being so legendary. MYTH with a big fat bow on it. It's not trash by any means but it is NO better than the other calibers I mentioned and you hold less felon repelant. You are right about the woods vs city carry. In the woods I prefer a stainless Smith 357 although my Glock 40 sometimes takes it's place. In the city my glock 40 is standard equipment on duty and a Kahr mk9 off duty. Presently I have four Sigs and I choose not to beat them up for everyday carry. Why tear up a $900.00 Sig when I can use a $400.00 Glock from the department. Just recently I was given the option of carrying a Sig at work if I like. I just may tote one from time to time now. Best.

I agree with you, and I don't reload so that is interesting information.

Some of my 9mm buddies think the .357 sig is from another planet.

Everybody makes factory loaded ammo for the .357 Sig, it is just spendy.

I have a Taurus PT 24/7 Pro in .45 and it is one sweet cannon. Holds 12 in the mag and one in the pipe. That's the most I could find in th .45 as far as capacity. This is my 2nd Taurus, and I am going to stick with them.

Para Ordnance makes a 14 rounder and with the mag extension youare up to 17 rounds.
On another note: If you really like the 1911 platform but need more power than a 10mm or a .45, there are 2 calibers to look at, the 9x25 Dillon and the 38 Casull. The 38 Casull will push a 124gr bullet at 1800fps and a 147gr bullet to 1600 out of a 6inch barrel! The Dillon isn't quite as fast and I can't find any load data on the 147gr bullet. The 38Casull is a .45 winmag case shortened to slightly longer than .45acp length and necked down to 9mm, where as the Dillon is a 10mm case necked down to 9mm. Both of these rounds have a lot more power than anything else commercially available. Just another good reason to reload! Yes, I have dies for both of the rounds.

Sarky, let me know if you need a spare 3 ton winch and cable to hold your pants up with 14-17 rounds of 45 in a double stack 1911 platform. I have a spare I don't use anymore. And wow an extended mag....Hope that works out for you in summer carry. As far as those Casull and Dillon choices why not just shoot .45 super out of a Sig 220, Glock 21, or H&K USP and be lighter to boot. I don't think the Taurus is up to standard for .45 Super though. With all of the big boomers mentioned follow up shot recovery will be a distant memory to say the least. If you need more than "standard" combat rounds ,which often is the case, just bring a shotgun. For what it is worth, I am not a huge fan of the 1911 platform but I do like it and shooting those big boomers through one destroys it's somewhat delicate design in short order (battered frame and locking lugs). Why do you think Colt disontinued production of the 10mm Delta Elite? It was intended for the somewhat low pressure .45 ACP round. IMO there are better auto platforms out there if big boomers is your thing. Stay safe brother.

That's the PRC (Peoples republic of California) for yo. 10 day wait in any cartridge fire arm, and no more than 1 pistol every 30 days... Today I also picked up used 870 express with sights for 295 too. HATE the WAIT...

I HEAR THAT! Badawg, move out of that communist state and join the rest of us where men are still free (FOR THE TIME BEING). Don't move to Mass. either. They are just as bad maybe worse on some accounts from what I've heard. You obviously deserve better. Good choice with the XD I like mine just fine and fairly accurate too. Mine has been flawlessly reliable. Best.
