Default Tracking Whitetail in the fresh snow.

I hummed and hauled about posting this here. I hope it is appropriate, but I am pretty excited about what happened on a spot and stalk hunt my husband and 12 yr old son were successful on this past Monday. It had been a hard season of finding a buck here(buck only law). I had sat a few evenings on a trail and hubby was hunting hard, morning and night trying to fill the rest of the freezer up. Our son is always with us, he is a good little tracker and cant wait til he is able to hunt himself.
Everything changed with the falling of snow over the past weekend, leaving us blanketed in white fluffy tracking material. Spotting a fresh large track, they left the logging road in the back country and followed it for over an hour.
Knee deep snow, son stepping in his fathers footprints for quietness and a little ease off shorter legs. He knew to stop when his dad did, and as he peeked around on the end of the this tracking trail, my son spotted the buck that caused the halt. The deer stood broadside looking the other way as the crack of rifle which is usually deafening "putted" out, all but silenced by the heavy snow and thick cover. The deer was recovered 20 yards from it's standing point and the little tracker near jumped outta his little boots.
I wanted to post a pic of my son and the prize here. Very proud of them both....Now if I just can find something at the end of my trails...I will be an even happier happy gal!!!

I post this will no intention of offending any of the non-hunting community, just wanted to share what may be at the end of anyone's tracking adventure.

Congratulations LT, looks like some good eating there (If God hadn't meant for man to eat animals, He wouldn't have made them out of meat)

Looks like nice country you're in there too, I've never visited the eastern part of the country.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Yes the rut is in full swing...that was why the buck was looking in the other direction..following some pretty little doe no doubt!

...sigh....story of my life. Just minding your own business, eyeing up some pretty little be-hind that's hopping gracefully through the forest in front of ya', givin' ya those come-hither looks, and WHAM some clown blindsides you and ya' never got to see it comin'

Never felt sorry for a deer before, kinda wish you two hadn't mentioned that part

We don't have any yet, I was surprised to see that much in the pix. There' a lot of theories on the current weather patterns but mine goes like this...Mother Nature is holding back the really nasty stuff because she wants Trax to get out there and shoot a moose and a deer. Obviously, it's based in sound scientific reasoning and try as I might, I can't find any flaws in the logic. I'm probably going to feel really bad for the "towners" after I'm done hunting and winter hits them. Naah...bunch of crybabies that belong indoors.

I think if anyone was going to get offended by a dead buck they're at the wrong forum.

The only time I've been offended really is reading this big game hunting magazine and seeing all these loser fat white guys who more money than balls posing with dead elephants, lions, cheetahs, rhinos, and other etc endangered or threatened animals. You know there was no actual "hunting" involved, they just drove out in a jeep and shot the things. And it isn't like they're going to be eating the animals, and probably couldn't even take a trophy home with them. so its just about compensating for a shortcoming they got IMO.

But, there are hundreds of million of deer out there and you're eating them and there isn't anything wrong with that.

No, really Chris, how do you feel about it? LOL

I agree 100% plus, like the guys who use snowmobiles to chase wolves almost to death and then shoot them when they're too exhausted to run anymore. They make me sick. I'd love to start a thread on how someone should open up a season on those guys (I bet I know a couple of guys here who'd join me) Don't have to kill them, just post a picture of the pants they crapped in when I had them in site where you'd normally hang a pair of antlers....but that's probably the wrong way to think.

Have no intrest in hunting elephants, rhino's, lions, and other exotic animals. If I ain't gonna eat it I ain't gonna hunt it, and then the huntings for food... doe or buck makes no difference but the buck antlers make good knife handles and have other uses.
