    Default Firesteel Project

I thought that I would share my firesteel project that I have been working on the past couple of days. I got a 1" dowel rod and cut 2-3" pieces and 2-4" pieces. The size of my firesteels are 1/2x5". I used a 1/2" drill bit and I drilled a hole one and a half inches deep on each of the short pieces of wood. I then drilled a three and a half inch hole in each of the long pieces.
I used Gorilla Glue to glue the firesteels into the short pieces and let them set overnight to cure real good. In the meantime, I started brushing polyurethane on the wood dowels to protect the wood and to also make them waterproof. In all, there is a total of 6 coats of polyurethane on the wood dowels.
I now have a handle for my firesteels to hold them by, and protection for the part of the firesteel that you use with your scraper.

Neat idea. I have some bamboo that grows outside. I wonder if the bamboo is thick enough to do something like this. It's not real thick, that is.
