Default Something that happened to me today.

So I'm on my college campus today and out of my peripheral vision I see a young squirrel sitting on a branch about eye level. I begin to stalk up to it, knowing that it could catch sight of me at any time, due to me not being camoflauged and wearing a white t-shirt. The squirrel starts scratching himself and looking directly at me while I'm stalking towards him. Every time he stops scratching I stop and get as still as I can. I get to within 2 feet of him before he finally decides to leave his branch and run away. He stops about halfway down the trunk of the tree and takes one final look at me before bolting down and away.

I just wanted to share that. I love when I can get close enough to nature to touch and feel it.

You don't need to be camoflauged to get close to a squirrel, just show him you nuts.

You don't want a squirrel to get close enough to you to touch and feel you. He would end up shredding your arms, and maybe face and then laughing as he ran away with your nuts

They look cute, but man they are tough little critters.

In college I watched a squirrel eat a fried chicken leg that it pulled out of the garbage. Later I watched the same squirrel (same tree anyway) eat a vanilla wafer by nibbling it around the edges until it was gone. It was unnatural. Mac

No, you weren't being impolite. "Nuts" = "Crazy". Get it? (what kinda' nuts, you ask) Crash's sick sense of humor. You'll get used to it. Now, Rick's sick sense of humor? You may never get used to that, but you'll see for yourself. And Sarge ... Sarge ... Sarge - again, you'll see for yourself.

Nah - you weren't being impoite. What Ken said. I mean, I didn't want to insult you by saying show them you're crazy....just figured show them you're nuts was more polite. Jokes just lose some of their appeal when you have to explain them.

I had a squirrel sit on the toe of my boot once while hunting on a hill. BUT, I never want to walk up and grab one. I feel winter storage may begin with my.......LOL!

In the local parks around town the squirrels will come right up to your hand and look for food. You see the squirrel and do a squirrel call as you crouch down hold your hand out as if you are holding something and move it up and down. They slowly make they're way over and will check to see whats in your hand. I have done it ever since I was a kid.

Here's another story. Last summer when I was building my little cabin, my friend stuck his hatchet into a hollow tree and a little flyin squirrel came out and sat on a branch not 3 feet away. A month later my dog attacked a baby flyer and we "rehabilatated" it.

Lol, aight, I get it now. Forgive me for not getting it. I'm usually not that dense!! I think next time I'll try to sneak up on the wild bum hanging out down on the corner. He seems like a friendly chap!

Depending on where you are from, sneaking up on a "wild bum" could be a whole lot worse than showing the squirrel your nuts.

Well, luckily I'm in central Oklahoma, so the bums aren't as vicious as they are in NYC or LA. I've encountered those bums before and they're not the friendliest regional variations!
