    Default Thomas Jefferson

The following are all quotes from Thomas Jefferson. Most have a significant relevance to the issues we face today.

"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe."

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world."

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government."

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny ingovernment."

And a very interesting quote in light of the present financial crisis:

"Banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
“Learning is not compulsory. Neither is survival.”
    W. Edwards Deming

    Ken,

Great quotes...here are a few from George Washington

"Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth."

"Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism."

"The marvel of all history is the patience with which men and women submit to burdens unnecessarily laid upon them by their governments."

"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."

"To contract new debts is not the way to pay old ones."

I think our founders had it right the first time.
"The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his."
    -General George S. Patton, Jr.

We still have quite a number of people like them around today. Unfortunately, very, very, very few hold public office.

While I am in complete agreement with all that has been said in this thread, let's not let it delve into a political conversation because then, well, you know.

So, would there be a problem if I asked Thomas Jefferson or George Washington to run for office again?

I'll be back as soon as I find my crystal ball, charms, incense, and that clear liquid in a bottle that makes those spirits answer me when I talk to them .........

Going against conventional wisdom I prefer cold. Out in the woods however, wilderness temperature is perfect.
