Tracking Whitetail in the fresh snow.
I hummed and hauled about posting this here. I hope it is appropriate, but I am pretty excited about what happened on a spot and stalk hunt my husband and 12 yr old son were successful on this past Monday. It had been a hard season of finding a buck here(buck only law). I had sat a few evenings on a trail and hubby was hunting hard, morning and night trying to fill the rest of the freezer up. Our son is always with us, he is a good little tracker and cant wait til he is able to hunt himself.
Everything changed with the falling of snow over the past weekend, leaving us blanketed in white fluffy tracking material. Spotting a fresh large track, they left the logging road in the back country and followed it for over an hour.
Knee deep snow, son stepping in his fathers footprints for quietness and a little ease off shorter legs. He knew to stop when his dad did, and as he peeked around on the end of the this tracking trail, my son spotted the buck that caused the halt. The deer stood broadside looking the other way as the crack of rifle which is usually deafening "putted" out, all but silenced by the heavy snow and thick cover. The deer was recovered 20 yards from it's standing point and the little tracker near jumped outta his little boots.
I wanted to post a pic of my son and the prize here. Very proud of them both....Now if I just can find something at the end of my trails...I will be an even happier happy gal!!!

I post this will no intention of offending any of the non-hunting community, just wanted to share what may be at the end of anyone's tracking adventure.

...sigh....story of my life. Just minding your own business, eyeing up some pretty little be-hind that's hopping gracefully through the forest in front of ya', givin' ya those come-hither looks, and WHAM some clown blindsides you and ya' never got to see it comin'
Never felt sorry for a deer before, kinda wish you two hadn't mentioned that part :D:D:D
