Keep an eye on the Massachusetts special election for the vacant U.S. Senate seat (held by the late what's-his-name) scheduled for January 19, 2010. Absent the biggest upset in political history, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure which party will win. However, the last two election percentages (2006 and 2008) were 70-30 and 66-31 respectively. Let's see if this margin tightens up a bit. Should that happen, in the most liberal state in the union, we may have one hint of things to come in the more normal states. :innocent:

Even the most chronically optimistic know--whether they want to admit it or not--it's gonna take a tad longer to recuperate from the last 8 years.

I gotta spank you on this one. We are not nor have we ever been a democracy! We ARE a represenative rebublic! We elect people to do what WE want them to do NOT lie to us to get elected then do whatever the hell they want. I am also sick and tired of this being a you versus us thing ie my team has to beat your team. Don't vote for an encumbant or anyone backed by an encumbant or anyone who has been in politics. I say vote for anyone else! Hell if i went through the phone book and just picked people out, they could probably do as good a job or better than these morons.

We have the best politicians money can buy. It's a shame we can't afford to buy some more. Sure would like to buy these for what they are worth, then sell them for what they
think they are worth. Tidy profit I could live with.

But let me say this:
I DID vote for someone else, it just turned out he wasn't charismatic enough.
People didn't want to have a beer with him or sit through more than a sound bite of explanation on anything that was VITALLY important to their existence.
The majority has spoken, and that's the way it is.
I didn't like it before, and I don't like it now. I guess I'm not pissed off enough to get involved in order to contribute to a meaningful change.

Because after all, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but right here.

We just had a special election in PA for the 24th district. The breakdown...

Republican 66.2%
Democrat 30.3%
Libertarian 3.5%

This district went for Obama in the last election. People are pissed and have good reason to be so.

In the next two election cycles there won't be any GWB boogieman to play. The focus will be solidly on the Democrats and what they do with power when they have it (grab for more and more). Mac

I believe there is no system, no matter what it is, that will be able to satisfy everyone all the time. Oh sure some are better than others and some have good intentions but the human aspect will always ruin it. People are greedy, that will never change. So any type of system, at some level will fail. Frankly I have no idea how our Democracy, Represenative Rebublic, or whatever you wanna call it is really supposed to work. And honestly I don't think anyone, including those that we entrust to uphold it, does either. There is way too much emphasis on what "party" people belong to. It really shouldn't matter either way expecially on most of the issues that plague this country. But I can't totally blame the Government. Oh I'm sure there are many times that a Representative takes it upon himself to try and make law soley based on his personal beliefs, or what his "party" wants him to do, but I'm sure there are times that they do things because enough of "us" wanted it that way. I mean lets look at it, really, If you or I were a member of Government how many times would we try to change things, bsed on our beliefs and morals, because we think it is the best thing to do. Or how many times would we do things for "the people" because the majority wanted it that way. We only see a small part of what really goes on and I wouldn't want that responsibility at all. I often wonder what catagory I'm in when I disagree with something that happens. I might be in the minority most of the time in the way I believe. So if that is the case then who am I to complain about what the majority wanted. But I am a firm believer that my vote doesn't really matter, I have no real power to change things, and no matter how much I may disagree with something it will end up the way it ends up.

That actually saddens me to hear that from a person of your age. If we all thought that way, then there truely is no way to make a change. Remember, I am the old fool optimist
