Hmmm...I guess I can't find the Digital Angel products here because they haven't been FDA approved yet, afaik, since the expermient was in Central America.

Oh, and the digitalangel.net RFID tracking site is down. I guess that means their Central American experiment run didn't go so well.

I have also investigated the VeriChip site in 2005 with no luck. Just some garbage about club kids and executives. I took another look today. Everything on there appears localized to scanners embeded in the building itself, which doesn't appear to effective if you make it out of the building and into a vehicle. Sure, if security stops someone before they make it out, ok, it worked. Or, once they find you they can scan your chip, but, it doesn't seem to work that well for tracking purposes.

I tried to call Verichip at the 1-800 # on their site and got an answering machine. It's early still, so I'll try again later today and get confirmation from them one way or the other.

According to the VeriChip personnel when DigitalAngel was mentioned:

"No, we have nothing to do with GPS. It's all Radio Frequency based."

Me: "Are you planning to implement something like that in the future?"

"No, there is nothing in the works at this time."

It's a knack. I just change the wording in google until I start getting hits.

An implantable chip that sends signals to the police meant it has a transmitter. A transmitter means it needs a battery to power it, and that means a limited life span and bulky size. Or have they come up with a way to power it with body heat?

RFIDs have neither a transmitter nor a battery.

Good point, Remy. And for those of you that have bionic parts, you do know that many of them have serial numbers implanted in the part so if something happens to you they can still identify you through the bionics. That piece can be traced directly to you.

As for the RFIDS, my guess is that technology will be replaced by something smaller and better. Perhaps nano technology. Something you could be injected with and never even know you have. Now theres something to get paranoid over......

lol. There's this post-apocalyptic game called RIFTS. They have this character type called juicer. It's an assassin who's hopped up on amphetamines. Cool thing (kinda) about the character is that he wears a harness has bands around both arms, both legs, and the neck. Also has a chest plate. Periodically, the bands around the arms, legs, and neck boost more meth into his body. When it gets to the point that his body starts to fail and shut down, he bangs on the chest plate, which release a couple shots of nano's into his body to go repair the damage. When they're done they're processed out like any other waste or toxin in the blood stream.

While I know it's fiction I've seen some of the anticipated uses for that tech. Cool stuff. But scary, very very scary. That whole sentient A.I. bit? The one that takes over the world? Imagine nano in that things control.

With carbon strings and nano technology and electrical switches in the microscopic range. Who knows what lies around the next technological discovery corner? There seems to be no end in how small we can go. Heat dissipation used to be the limiting factor now even nano particles can manufacture other nano particles. Here's the kicker that bothers me. Nano particles can pass the blood brain barrier. Most medications can not. And no one knows what the consequences of that is. To me, that is REALLY scary.

Juicer are just meat targets for my GB lol. Dont forget that there is a finite amount of work something that small can do sure nanites would be good for single gene manipulations and micro leisions. A larger problem is storing enough data for something that small to do anything and then there is the problem of energy

Self healing skin? Didn't a car company come out with self repairing paint a few years ago? Small scratches would self repair if I remember correctly. Just too expensive. Anywhoooo. Don't swat that bug. It cost 400 million.
