Default What are the odds? Deer shed

What are the odds of this happening...........?

A couple of years ago, my neighbor, has the cabin next to me, shot a nice buck.
It had part of his antler missing on one side.

Following spring, I was watching my other neighbor, disking up the lower field.
So I was sitting on the 4 wheeler, off to one side, and noticed a deer antler in the hedgerow.

Thinking it was a shed, I picked it up and put it in the cabin.
I was broken off, instead of just being shed, and I started thinking about the buck with the broken off antler.
This was about 400 hundred yards from where he shot the buck.

Next time I saw the neighbor, I asked him what he did with the rack, and he still had it in his cabin.

So he brought it over, and sure enough, the broken piece fit perfectly, but was still missing one tang.

The color of the piece was lighter as it was outside for about 6 months, and DW suggested he paint it to match, but makes a better mount left "as is".
So I gave him the piece and he mounted it.

As there is still a tang missing we did each get a 12 pack, and looked for it, but haven't found it yet.

Finding it might require a full case.

    Hunter,

I think you and the neighbor are just having too much fun! Good show finding the broken piece.

It's fortunate he doesn't shoot them the way he acquires their racks....a bit at a time. You'd probably have some three legged deer running around.

LOL, he's a good shot, so other than helping him clean them and dragging them back, I mostly help him make sure that the beer doesn't get stale, (after hours only).

Great friends are hard to find. Any man that will help you prevent your beer from becoming stale must surely be a true friend and one well worth keeping!!

We do just fine, think a lot alike, get along well, watch each others back, if you know what I mean.

I always keep my eyes open for anything interesting when ever I out doing just about anything.

Sheds are always good for knife handles, buttons, decoration, etc, found quite a few over the years.

This one only had a couple of chew marks on it, usually in the sprint they are really chewed up.
Got one on the shelf, that would have been really thick, enough that I couldn't get may hand around the base, but was only half there, rest was just gone.

When I was in my teens, I was sitting at the dining room table changing my watch band while my mom was cooking in the kitchen. Of course, the little spring bar that holds the band to the watch went flying off. I looked all over the place for that thing. No luck.

About 2 months later, Mom was pouring some vinegar out of the bottle into a measuring cup, and out came the spring bar. It had landed IN the bottle of vinegar the day I was changing the band - in another room.

i've heard bigger fish stories that turned out true.

one of them actually involves a fish.
