Not sure what hassle you are referring to, but we have several members that make bows and do their own fletching. I'm sure they will be able to offer up some info for you. It'll be hard to make anything worthwhile without some kind of hassle. making a bow will take you several months...that is if you harvest your own bowstave and cure it your self. It also takes lots of time and patience not to mention elbow grease. Then again there is no gurantee that it will work perfectly the first time. Do some research. you might decide to buy one instead.
