It appears that the posts in this thread did not survive the recovery from the data base problem. Klkak - sorry to hear of the loss of your pet and pal, Bandit.

It is amazing how much a pet touches your life. My thoughts are filled with memories of him running in front of my truck then cutting off into the woods to chase a squirrel or some interesting smell.

He taught himself to hunt and retrieve even though he wasn't that kind of dog.

Allot of folks got a kick of how he would rush into the water and grab the salmon I'd just hooked and bring it up on the shore.

On two occasions he quite possibly saved my life.

Once when a couple of strangers approached my camp late at night.

Once while hunting I inadvertently got between a cow moose and her 2 calves. She didn't hesitate to charge me. Out of nowhere came Bandit and lit into her like fur covered tornado.

All he ever wanted was to please me. We were side by side for 13 years.

It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. To hold and pet him as the vet put him down. He slipped away gently and took a fair portion of my heart with him.

    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

I am sorry to hear of your loss brother. It is never easy to say good by to a good companion.
You don't have to join PETA to survive in the woods, it just helps.
