Here are some fire steels Ive been working on. They spark realy good, You can were it around your neck. I know what you would say about stabing your self, Ive seen crosses that were more dangerous. And if need be you can through it in the fire and ley cool, and you can sharpen and use as a weapon. Tell me what you think.

Since I've seen them up close on our Alexander Springs trip I'll say again that I like them. They really are a functional piece of art. For anybody looking - the edges are not sharpened, but easily could be with a file. Nice work.

they are cool rwb i would make little sheath to go over them they may not be sharp but they look nice and pointy that could stab you if fell .

I haven't worked with steel very much. How did you get the black tarnish on? Is that from the fire or some sort of product?

Its a result of the hardening process, And the steel is old trap springs.

No, these are used with a peice of flint or chert and char cloth. Im going to post some fire kits I make in the next few days and you can check it out.

If your worried about injuries cover them with tool dip used for handles. Or possibly heatshrink tubing used for insulating wiring. Just some thoughts on this
