    Default Cordage Questions

    I have used Rabbit, Squirrel, and Woodchuck intestines to dry and twist into cordage for my light bows. My question is- Is Deer intestine strong enough to pull a heavy bow without breaking from tension? Im talking about around 50 -70 pound bows. And how long is a deer intestine? And finally, is the cordage durable and long lasting (except in wet or damp weather)?

    Intestines? That's a hardcorebow my friend. Deer intestines are 65ft long. As for strength and durability as a bow string... can't say I've even thought to use it.

    Don't see why it wouldn't work. Catgut (not really from cats) has been used in quite a few applications. Got an old tennis racket around?

    How long are you expecting as far as long lasting? lots of deer around if you need more.

    Well I do know for a fact that intestines, when dried and twisted (reversed wrap multiple times), make servicable bowstrings that have quite some strength. I know this not from listening to others but from personnal expirience. Squirrel is weak, as with rabbit, but woodchuck is servicable. What I don't know is how well Deer gut holds up to the strength of a bow. I prefere cordage that doesn't have to be spliced becuase it's easier for me. I would plan on using it for many years, as long as it was tooken care of.

    Hey, mein alter Fernseher war so dick wie ein Schrank und die Bildqualitt unter aller Sau. Ein neues Gert konnte ich mir einfach nicht leisten.
