My personal Camp Knife

I designed this knife myself. I found out after I drew up the design that it is similar to what is most often referred to as a Pre-Bowie. A knifesmith friend of mine made the knife for me out of an old sawmill blade. It takes a keen edge and holds it through all manner of use. It will do everything from kitchen duty to chop down and delimb a good sized sapling. It has a 9" blade that is heavy and perfectly balanced with antler slabs on a full tang with a brass bolster. Take a look at some pics(this is my knifesmith friends photobucket page)

It excells a baton splitting wood, chopping both vegetables for the pot and the wood to cook them with in the fire. I have thrown it once at a tomahawk target and it worked perfectly sinking into the wood a marvelous 4 inches; but I won't risk the scales like that again except in an emergency.

Yep, too pretty to use for sure. Nice work and I am partial to the stag, just too cheap to use for my attempts at knifemaking.

Actually A friend made this for me from my design. The antler slabs were from a shed hunting. I'm having one made with a paracord wrapped handle, maybe over tire rubber slabs. I used the knife in the pics on my August to December adventure and it worked a treat. I made my shelter frame from green saplings that had just shed their leaves and cut and delimbed them all with this knife. I skinned and cut a whitetail doe into serving size pieces in under half an hour. It did everything I asked of it and held it's edge very well. Worth every penny and less expensive than you might believe.

Wow that's a great looking knife. I like the distressed finish at the top that adds a good manly look to off-set the more elegant handle. I really like it. There's picture on this forum of a knife I made. You could see them if you typed in "Forging a knife" into the search tab at the top. My pictures are on that thread if you're interested. Again I really admire the knife, your friend is a great blade smith.
