I've made a stove from a canteen cup. What I did was cut the bottom off a canteen cup about a half inch up (this allows your canteen cup to fit into the up turned former canteen cup. Then remove the handles and cut out the welded/riveted section that held the handles. This is where you will feed fuel in. Lastly mark how far down your cup fit into the upturned cup/stove and drill holes around the cup on that line. now you are done and your new stove will nest in your cup and your canteen will sit in that. Wish I still had that but I gave it away to one of the other instructors when I retired. and then I found the pocket cooker stove (Sportsmans Guide).

One last thing, when you cut the section that holds the handle away, don't cut through the lip of the cup. It's easier to do this but it weakens the cup/stove. All this was done with a dremel tool and a cutoff wheel.

Well I want to simulate the original canteen cup stove but I want a bottom on it so I don't need to worry about wet ground or the like. Exactly like the Crusader bottom but one that'll fit/nest around the USMC canteen cup for easy storage.

Mitch - don't know if this will fit into your packaging requirements, but what about the old, pitted, nasty canteen. I know that quite a few are sold (with cup) at shows. Often the price is good just for the cup and many replace the canteen with a plastic one. Making a stove out of the canteen should work quite well.

Good link Outbac1. When you get a chance how about stopping by the introduction section and tell us a bit about yourself. Thanks.

Wow good finds, both of you; exactly what I was looking for!
Crash - I'll definitely be getting a metal canteen to boot. Only reason I'd get plastic is if I don't want the sloshing (I'm not into stealth camping, so forget that!)

Crash, they look new, where did you acquire those (if you don't mind), and did they come with the pouch case?

I picked up those two at a gun show. They've been around for awhile, but cleaned up pretty good. They didn't come with pouches.

I haven't purchased anything from this site, so can't give a review - third item down on this page http://www.omahas.com/index.php?cPath=16_39 looks like it may be similar to the other stove posted.

Last one standing - how about heading over to the introduction section when you get a chance and tell us a bit about yourself. Thanks.

I don't have one, so I haven't tried it. The holes are a bit small, so airflow may become an issue.

Try using some aluminium foil for a bottom on a regular cup stove. I carry some aluminium foil in the case for a lid anyway so another piece for the bottom isn't much to carry. In winter you need to put it on a few sticks to keep it from sinking in the snow.
