I may have need of a small butane heater/burner that lays on the counter and stays on, to produce slaked lime, in order to illustrate an exothermic reaction to my son. In order to change chalk into slaked lime I need temperaturs of around 1200F, so a propane torch won't work. (I tried it.)
No, I don't want to spend $150 on a butane camp stove. I'm looking for something smaller, like a butane lighter that stays on by itself. It's for occasional use only. I might use it to temper iron also.
No, I can't afford an oxy-acetylene torch either.
Any ideas? Is there something simple I can make?
Basically what I'm looking for is a bunsen burner which runs on butane. So I could get a butane canister from a camping store, but I would need the connection to the canister, a hose, and burner assembly with valve.
