I am looking for a new basecamp sleeping bag, so weight is not an issue but warmth is. Im looking at the slumberjack line but i dont know anybody who owns one. Just looking for any info on them. Also any suggestions on other bags would be appriceted. Must be -20 rating and not a mummy.
    Thanks, Jim

What price range are you looking at? That will control some of your options and some suggestions.

Under 350.00 would be reasonable since its something i will have and use for a long time.

I'm going to offer you some links. I own a military surplus mummy bag so I can't offer the benefit of my experience. My son will be here later today and he's had a bunch of commercial bags although I think all of his have been mummy, too. I do know he carries a fleece insert even today. I'll ask him what he thinks. In the mean time, here are some reviews you might not have seen.

Huntermj - I owned a Slumberjack sleeping bag many years ago. Can't tell you the model or design, but it was rated a -40*. It was on the heavy side (but in my 20's I took it backpacking in cold weather). It was not a mummy bag. Used it a lot. It was the bag that I use for sleeping in the back of my Pinto while skiing, motorcycle trips cross country, etc. Don't remember exactly what I paid for it - bought it at REI in downtown Seattle - I think for around $100 or so in 1980. Kind of wish I had it now. I've noticed that oddly my mummy bags seem to get smaller with age.

I have a Nissan Pathfinder that is set up so i can sleep in the back, usually at back country trail heads. Removed one of the passenger seats. Its not as styling as a Pinto but it works. There still about a hundred bucks. How accurate was the temperature rating?

The coldest I used it was -25* and was very, very warm.
