    Thumbs up Welcome New Members

I've copied my comments from another thread I responded to and posted them on this new thread. The other thread started with a topic not related to this subject matter.

My $0.02... I visit this forum on a regular basis, contribute when I can, and have found it a good resource of information. I have tried to stay away from the hot topics such as; pushing new members to the intro. page and harsh responses to new members questions. I try to welcome new members aboard. All this has served me well.

This is the only forum I contribute to so I don't have any real experience in the management of such a forum. If I read a thread I don't like I just go on to another one. If I post a comment and receive a negative response from a person, I just ignore them if I feel it is unjustified. (This is the World Wide Web)

The "Wolf Pack" of regular members and moderators can be harsh and sometimes unreasonable, but these are also some of the best informed and good people I've communicated with.

In my "opinion" I believe that it can be hard to tell the difference between a new member that is just so new to survival training that they ask poor questions or have misconstrued ideas, and someone that is just looking to stir things up.

I have made it clear that I feel some members react too harshly to new members and this has led to many people leaving the forum prematurely.

For new members I've asked them to get to know the regular members, learn their personalities before jumping ship. I've found that a member may totally disagree with you on one subject and back you up on another one.

The bottom line is that; if you can conduct yourself professionally, disputes are very rare.

Agree, a new person can take or leave this forum or any forum very easily. They just want their question answered and that's all they want at that moment. We the members care about this forum but they don't yet. It should be our job to welcome new people and show them that if they want they can be a part of a group of like minded persons. How about a sticky in every category explaining that the forum admin and mods would like everyone to post an intro but not making it a mandatory thing.

My day job is that of a Network Administrator. Fancy name, but what it
really means is that I'm a troubleshooter. When I'm faced with a problem,
my approach is to analyze it in depth, figure out what the problem is, and
    come up with a solution.
My approach to my job tends to carry over here as well.

Like tsitenha says, use your eyes and your ears, then use your brain cells
    to learn and understand.

The threads where more seasoned members react too harshly to new
members are the ones where I seem to learn the most.

A lot of times I say to myself, that I, in my naivety, would have asked the
very same question that the other newbie asked. Then I read the
responses from the members, and go back to analyze what the original
question was so that I can see how the responses fit in relation to the
    original question.
Most of the time, I can figure out where the senior members are coming
    from, and learn that way.

The one thing about this forum that attracts me to it, is that this place
is for people who are very serious about the subjects discussed here.
Sure, there seems to be a lot of light hearted banter here, but when
push comes to shove, the advice given on here, is given from a level-
headed, serious perspective, and is the type of information that is needed,
    with no bulls**t.

In my industry, when I come across a situation that I can't solve, I phone
up-line tech support. That's how I regard this forum. You are my up-line
tech support and when I need advice, in this field, this is the place that
    I come.

    Cheers from a newbie perspective

as long as it's inside bro, if you're getting warm and gooey on the outside I'll be getting concerned.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Thanks pgv, a fair assessment I'd say. I take people as I find them and expect the same. My signature says it all, albeit in latin and gaelic lol :
