Hello from the Kansas City area

Hey all,

Lonnie here, happened on to your forum while checking up on some heat treating info. I always enjoy a good read on a social site so I am looking forward to lurking around a bit.

I am on the MO side of KC, just far enough out to not be in the muck of the city but close enough to drive in to it 5 days a week. I grew up hunting and fishing with my dad and grandpa but have only in the last year or two gotten in to "survival" which I prefer to call "how not to die in the woods". I really enjoy being out in the woods but as I get older (50 now) I find myself becoming more of a fair weather visitor. Would love to blame it on health or something of the like but truth is I have just gotten soft behind a desk over the last 25+ years. Trying to break that trend.

I hope to pick up lots of good info and if I have something I feel is relevant, maybe I can add a bit as well before someone better educated gets it out here.

Hopefully ideas you read about and/or have tried and share here at WS will inspire you to get out in the woods and experiment with new ways to have fun and "survive out there". Even if someone else has already posted something similar to what you were going to share please never feel intimidated not to share. I try many different methods of doing things (camping/hunting/fishing related), most of them are relative failures but it is always a fun learning experience. Some techniques or tools, gear etc works great for some situations but not well in others, if someone is a jerk and tells you that your method or gear is not good just ignore them. I have never met anyone who has done everything, and I have know a lot of "outdoor people" all my life.
