Iskandar I would not let silly comments by "some" people get you too upset they would be totally confused by even the most basic abstracts (easy to read introductions) written by Dr. Yi Cui and his colleagues much less the actual scientific papers which I could get you copies of if you really want to read them. I'm curious what the types of heat there are? I only know of one. I guess my two thermal classes and heat transfer class were wrong.

Your body emits energy in the form of heat. That heat moves from your body using one of three mechanisms; convection, conduction, and radiation. There aren't any other mechanisms to move heat. This silver fabric can only reflect the radiation heat loss from your body, it does nothing for convection or conduction. Almost all traditional and even high tech fabrics try to stop convection and conduction and don't go for the radiation. The reason the article said "They created a fabric that’s able to trap 80 per cent of body heat" is because, if you are in a room that eliminates convection and conduction, then most of the heat loss is through radiation, and if you reflect that back.....80%. You can't get 100% because it is really hard to stop the other two, even in an isolated room.

Check out a space blanket add.....same claims.

Aw c'mon.......I hope we are here as hobbyist or enthusiasts or outdoor extremists (whatever we call ourselves) should not be too carried away with whatever post deemed "silly" or not. When some people posts something deemed "silly" by others, it does not mean that person is silly or have IQ lower that you. Some people who are more intelligent, with a better IQ than anybody else around here, might seem to be having a lower IQ as he or she might just wanna move away towards something more less stressful or just wanna have a good joke in hoping to create better relationship.
As long as the posts are not degrading someone, or creating "bad air" we are here for a good reason, learn and share and to have a good time. Remember..never make a hobby your work..cos that will be the day you will leave your hobby. Never attack the poster with personal attacks unless you wanna leave under a nutshell or a cave by yourself..cos if you do, then why bother joining this forum?
Sorry for the bad English as I am only an old Asian guy from a 3rd World Country which is claiming it is developing, who have only a Master Degree in Psychology and Social Science.
I hope I have not damaged any ego of the people here..no punt intended.

I'm not sure. I think if you're talking hot/cold that's only one 'type' of heat, but what about capsicum in peppers? Different type of heat, I guess it's not technically 'heat' though. But that's what the far infrared pad feels like, like capsicum on skin. It's definitely not something that just warms you up. So I guess you could say it produces a different type of heat. I'm definitely no expert on it, have no idea how it even works.
