Actually it was a 12ga with front bead sight using a 2 3/4 inch shell loaded with 1oz of #6 shot. Took the shot at about 70yds in low light conditions and the only thing I hit was its head when it popped up from behind a fallen tree. Walked over to recover and looked over the log and.......Damn, a chipmunk. Killed it, gotta eat it. Took it back to the camp site and I gutted it and skinned it like a squirrel. Slow cooked it over the fire for about 45min and ate it. Texture was just like that of a squirrel, but the flavor was a bit different. Didn't taste as "gamey" as squirrels usually do. It actually wasn't too bad to be honest with you. Just not a whole lotta meat.

What I was getting at was, "Hey Homey, gonna be needing one of them there .17 HMR's .....chipmunk season coming up.....ya know...."

My area is covered up with chippies to the point of nescience level. They have run all the rats out of north KY.

I find their acorn stashes in my tool shed every year and they even made a stash in the chicken house this past fall.

I have always figured they would be easy enough to catch with a rat trap and would add some flavor the ramen noodles in a pinch.

Wish I would have known you were in the market. I pulled 13 rats out of a house today. A few of them were a wee bit past their prime, but hey........maggots are protein too right?

I catch the stupid things all summer long. I set a live trap next to the foundation of the house with no bait. They run through it and get trapped. I relocate one and three more show up. Don't ever kill one. There will be a thousand show up for the funeral.
