Mora Knife Handles

Hi All,

I was thinking of picking up a couple of Mora models to use for wet moulding sheaths. From what I am seeing in their lineup, there only seems to be 2 main handle styles when it comes to their popular models.

The Campanion, and the Robust/heavyduty/bushcraft, etc models. Does anyone know if this is true or not? Does the rest of the lineup (for the most part) have identical handles size shape? I know there are other models like the classic, #1 and 2, and the Pathfinder, but I'm thinking in terms of the ever so loved models that are currently so popular.

No. There must be eight or nine different variations on handles. Each series has it's own shape. Some of them look similar but you'll find a difference in the finger guard usually. Some are longer. They've just starting making a brand new style for the 511/546 series of knives. It's completely different than anything they've put out before. These knives will all fit the same size leather sheath. Hope that helps.

If you make a sheath to fit something like one of the companion knives then the rest of those will fit. Even the #1 and #2 should be the right length and the sheath will be snug enough to hold them. I don't know if that will be true if you wet form the sheath to the specific knife but it will work if you just make a generic sheath.

Rick seems to have the in depth models listed, but after dream shopping their site I saw way more knives then I thought they had. From kitchen, to bushcraft, to mushroom knives. I don't know if you're talking about only bushcraft/field knives or what but Obviously specialty ones like this are different and may not fit.

I was meaning the popular outdoor/bushcraft models.

I prefer molded sheaths over retention strap only. The idea was to find a couple of knives that would cover a good number of the popular models, if a request came along, I already have something to mold from.

On that note, after Rick's extensive list and an email to Paul over at Bushcraft Canada, I ordered the Companion and Robust HQ.

Mora (and Frosts of Sweden) have always been working knives. They've only been "wilderness" knives in the past decade. Prior to that they catered to the working trades in Scandinavia almost exclusively and their knives were forced into "wilderness" service here in the U.S. because they were tough and cheap. Once they merged companies they began rebranding and offering more in the outdoor arena as well as heavily marketing their wares here in the U.S. Their tactical, survival and Light My Fire knives being the latest examples.
