enough wood for this winter?

Ice storm last year in my area produced free firewood within walking distance, also downed many large hardwood dead and alive trees at my daughters home so more firewood there. Spent sometime yesterday splitting oak the old fashion manual way, nice brisk day no wind, perfect for it.

We have friends that will call us when they see oak piled in someones swale. We go and get it and stack it for backyard fires and to take with us to camp to avoid having to go after good cooking wood when we get to camp late at night. We also drive to other nearby camps and pick up wood that other campers didn't burn.

Also, we pay attention to land where certain trees grow near power lines. There is an invasive earleaf acaia that the power company cuts and leaves where it falls. Makes good fire. Australian pines and sheoaks get cut a lot or blow down.

I don't use wood for heating the house.

Why do they always land in a creek? All that woods to fall in and they land in a creek.

The pic I posted is the oak down in the ravine....mostly no water, but rocks and rolls when we have or yearly 100 year flood.

Would really like to get it out of there.

Here in S W France it is still mild, temp today is 10' C. We have not had any frost or cold weather.

Where I live , it is rare of late to have any snow longer that a day. We do get some frost , mostly in Jan or Feb. Other parts of France get it bad!!!

I had delivered 20 steres ( cubic meters) of dry oak in 1 meter lengths. This was in Sept.
I stack them in the garden , and cover with a tarp. I have another store , in a barn , ready to saw. I will use about 10 cubic meters this winter .
