This is the PLR-16 a weapon by Kel-Tech that our SRT is checking out.

The PLR-16 is a gas operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 5.56 mm NATO caliber. It was designed as and is intended as a long-range target and hunting pistol. The PLR-16 has a conventional gas piston operation and utilizes the proven M-16 breech locking system. The rear sight is adjustable for windage. The front sight is of M-16 type. An integrated MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail will accept a multitude of standard accessories. The muzzle end of the barrel is threaded 1/2” -28 to accept standard attachments such as a muzzle brake. Except for the barrel, bolt, sights, and mechanism, the PLR-16 pistol is made entirely of high-impact glass fiber reinforced polymer. The PLR-16 pistol comes blued, with one 10 round magazine, and includes a gun lock. A single point sling is also included.

Basically it's like an M-16 machine pistol, we'd be getting it in select fire of single shot and three round burst.

Lol. Not quite, but close. The keltec site has a trajectory chart on it. I was looking at that same weapon when someone else was talking about the keltec rifles. I'd really like to know the final outcome of the dept's investigation into it. Incidentally, what are ya'll replacing with it? I know some of the LA boys were using H&K MP5's a few years back.

We have quite a few MP5s, pretty standard SRT weapon here, they are looking for something smaller for escort duties in plain clothes, it works good in that capacity I've been told. I am a heavy weapons guy on our team, M-4 with EoTech Holosight HDS 500 and bottom mounted taclight and I love it, personally don't want that thing as I don't do the escort work. SRT for those that don't know is Special Response Team, The Special Response Team is assigned to provide tactical enforcement response to critical and high risk incidents, including hostage, barricade and sniper situations, escort protection to local and foreign dignitaries, high risk apprehensions and search warrant executions, as well as hunting felony fugitives. To prepare for assigned operations, the Special Response Team trains continuously in executing dynamic and deliberate searches, tactical firearms usage, rappelling and physical fitness, negotiations and technical surveillance training. The Special Response Team is currently composed of officers assigned to the Patrol, Court Services, and Organized Crime Divisions.
Being 42 and making this team (for the second time, but was younger the first go around) makes me feel pretty good, at my age, most of the guys are 26 to 35 at the oldest, other than the Major and the Captain (Major controls the ops center and scene and the Captain is a sniper) I am the oldest member.

Some of the Black Water security guys carry those over here i Iraq. I have asked them about them and they all say they like them for close quarters but the sling is a must if u wait to use the sights. I would like 2 shoot one some time seems like it could have some benefits.

I good weapon for home defense and for moderate range varmint shooting. I sighted the Streamlight TLR-2 tac-light/laser combo in at 20 meters, the iron sights are not useful past 50 meters. The ACOG that is mounted comes from my M4, using sand bags and a Harris bipod, was able to do 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 meters.
Have been feeding it nothing but Lake City Ammo, the green tip stuff. Ammo that I am familiar with. Have never had a jam, mis-feed, or a bolt override. Once went 500 rounds between cleaning without a hiccup.
