It is interesting to see a mainstream magazine publish an article on the history and cultural uses of an important tool - the machete. The Atlantic Monthly (November 2013) has published an article by John Cline "What is a Machete, Anyway?". It can be accessed online.

Wow! You mean they're not just for hacking up babies and old women? I think that's the perception much of the Western world has about machete's because it's synonymous with 3rd world violence like "assault rife", "AR15" or "Glock" are in our country!
