Best hammock

Batch, your truck anchor reminds me of the old surplus "jungle hammock" for sale on the back of Popular Mechanics, back in the '60's.

I had one in the truck of my car, with a hooked pipe extension on the trailer hitch.
Find a likely tree or pole....put the extension on, tie up the hammock and pull forward till it was of the proper tightness.

The hammock was canvas, heavy, had a built in roof and netting...smelled like mildew and sweat...but slept good.

I have a Hennessy Expedition Asym classic and an Explorer Asym zip. I love them both but I like the extra room in the Explorer. As far as classic (bottom entry) style vs Zip, They both have advantages. I'm comfortable with either. The Hennessy "Snakeskins" make packing WAY easier. And I recommend the oversized Hex fly. I have slept comfortably in various conditions in these hammocks. The biggest challenge is temperatures below freezing, but if you put a Thermarest in them you can sleep well below freezing. I haven't tried the "Supershelter" systems or under quilts, but I'd like to.

Spent my first night in the woods in it. One thing that constantly worries me is that i'm going to tear it or put a hole in it. I keep hearing something sound like it's tearing but it might just be the rope slipping. The fabric is so thin and light, how strong can it really be? Every time I get in I feel like i'm tip toeing on egg shells.

I have hammock camped for years and have used Eno, Grand Trunk, Mil-surp net, Hennessy, and even Warbonnets and others. You have to find out what works for you and you alone. It's trial and error and that's all there is to it. Just beware that you do not add so much gear to your hammock setup that it ends up being more trouble than not. I have done this a few times and it ruined it for me. Also, now that we have a little one the wife isn't that much into hammock camping as she once was.

As for tarps, you will always end up buying bigger tarp than the one that comes standard with a Hennessy or any other make that has tarp(s) included.

Have you decided on how you are going to rig your hammock? You going whoopie slings or keeping it standard? If you keep it standard go with the two ring setup as it makes setup a breeze.

It sets up fine ou of the box. If I added rings biners or anything else it would defeat th ultra light purpose

Yeah, I took off most of my add-ons and only left the rings and biners. The majority of it was unnecessary.

I tried whoopie slings and found they didn't work that well with the snake skins.

Its Amsteel which is the lightweight cable that you can get on your winches or if you use soft shackles you can tie up your wenches.

Here is a youtube video that covers them at about 5:40. I made my own and now the Amsteel is in my recovery kit for my machines.
