"« This is a knife! A Swedish Mora with a 3 7⁄8-inch fixed blade is Tony Nester’s preferred tool for bushcraft ($20, apathways.com). The reason: A fixed blade with a full tang (meaning the blade runs through the length of the handle) is stronger, so the handle never breaks. He favors carbon steel because you can sharpen it against a smooth river stone using an arcing motion against the rock. It also sparks when you strike the back of the blade with a piece of quartzite, flint, or chert."

Errrr, Mora's are not full tang.

That article is pretty lame. The fire starting technique is the blister stick. Advising people to drink the water anyway, without purification.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

    He stated the reason.

If your lost in the woods the average rescue is less than 4 days. That means you will most likely be under medical care IF you get sick from untreated water. I have lowered my face into gator holes in the glades and drank water directly from the hole without any consequence other than my mother giving me holy hell when she found out.

A gator hole for those that don't know is a haven for wild life in the dry season. The gator or gators, every fish, turtle, snake, bird, frog and what have you use the hole to get by the dry season.

But, you can have days where your body will pump out gallons of sweat and it does nothing to cool you because the humidity is too high that sweat will not evaporate. You can drink or die or drink and maybe get sick.

I carry survival straws, a larger filter, means to collect and boil water, treatment tabs, 2% tincture of iodine and potable water to meet my needs when possible. But, if I am caught in the swamp in temps that are in the mid 90's and humidity to match without any of that stuff. I am drinking and laying down in that water.

I follow the people who are lost in this region and the ones who have drank water have not had serious consequences. This water down here is not spring water. Still most cases of the ones who drink untreated water do not have major symptoms.

Hydrate or die! Hydrate and maybe get the shifts later. Most people with Giardia or Crypto don't develop symptoms for 7 days. Most also have minor or no noticeable adverse affects.

I am NOT advocating drinking untreated water. I am saying it is better than dying from not drinking untreated water!
